The host nation’s Hector Gatica and Guyana’s Trenace Lowe head the seeding for the respective men’s singles and women’s singles events at the forthcoming qualification tournament for places at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

Staged in Guatemala City, play takes place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th May.

Overall a total of 84 players (42 men and 42 women) compete in the table tennis events at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games to be staged from Friday 26th July to Sunday 11th August.

A total of 12 outfits compete in each of the men’s team and women’s team events, three players per team, a total of 72 players (36 men and 36 women). Thus there are 12 places remaining, six for men and six for women.

It is for these positions, places in the respective men’s singles and women’s singles events, for players who have not qualified via the team events, that are on offer in Guatemala, a tournament in which a National Olympic Committee is limited to two men and two women entrants.

Play is organised in a series of three knock-out tournaments, each tournament divided into blue draw and red draw. The respective winners of the blue draw and red draw in the first knock-out tournament, seeding as per the current world rankings, qualify. On the same principle, a  second knock-out tournament, seeding based on final places in the first followed by world ranking, will be staged, followed by third to decide the six places.

On the concluding day of action, six men and six women will be named as reserves.

At the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, a National Olympic Committee is limited to two players in each of the men’s singles and women’s singles events, one pair in each of the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles events.
