Staged from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 14th July, the Italian city of Naples will be the host for the 2019 Universiade; organized by the International University Sports Federation, it is the largest multi-sport event outside the Olympic Games.

The officials are now named; the referee is England’s Stuart Sherlock, the assistant referees being China’s Yang Yini and South Africa’s Genevieve Lentz.

Likewise the umpires have also been named.

They are: Ibrahim Albawaliz (Jordan), Aleksandr Aleksandrov (Russia), Chun Lei (China), Iman Fathy (Egypt), Francis Frimpong (Ghana), Lody Hazem (Syria), Joonas Kivimäko (Finland), Yoanna Ramirez (Colombia), Sanita Sveile (Latvia), Victor Ticala (Argentina), Wong Teck Leong (Malaysia) and Carlos Zapata (Spain).

At the 2017 Universiade, staged in Taipei City, Japan’s Masataka Morizono and Korea Republic’s Jeon Jihee won the respective men’s singles and women’s singles titles.

In addition, Masataka Morizono partnered colleague Yuya Oshima to men’s doubles gold, whilst also from Japan, Ayami Narumoto and Rei Yamamoto combined to secure the women’s doubles top prize. The mixed doubles was won by Jang Woojin and Jeon Jihee.

Meanwhile China represented by Chen Xin, Kong Lingxuan, Lai Jiaxin, Yu Ziyang and Zhu Linfeng emerged as the men’s team champions; Korea Republic’s An Yeongun, Jeon Jihee, Kim Gayoung, Kim Hyomi and Lee Eunhye claimed women’s team gold.
