At the final hurdle, they beat colleagues Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Manyu in six games (12-14, 9-11, 14-12, 13-11, 11-7, 11-7), a win that was somewhat contrary to expectations; Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha commenced play as the no.11, seeds, Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Manyu occupied the top seeded position.

Prior to the match, we thought of every possible scenario that could happen, after losing the first two games, we were still able to stay calm. We have been training intensively for doubles for the last month, so there’s now definitely more rapport and better communication between us. Notably, the success somewhat atones for the disappointments of four years ago in Incheon when it was the only title that eluded Chinese hands and both Mixed Doubles pairs departed in the quarter-finals.
Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng lost to Hong Kong’s Jiang Tianyi and Lee Ho Ching; Zhou Yu and Wu Yang experienced defeat at the hands of the eventual champions, DPR Korea’s Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong.

Notably for both winners and runners up in Jakarta, it was success at the first attempt; all are making their Asian Games debuts.
