Bronze medallist as a member of the Romanian line-up in the Junior Girls’ Team event, but Andreea Hudusan’s outing in the Junior Girls’ Singles tournament has lasted just one round.

Leading by two games to one, the host nation athlete went on to lose three of the next four games as Slovak opponents Ema Labosova snatched victory from the jaws of defeat (12-10, 9-11, 5-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-3, 11-9).

Another impressive comeback win came courtesy of Christina Karlsson: trailing by a three games to one deficit the Swede fought back to claim the next three games in a row (2-11, 11-4, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-9) to eliminate Serbia’s Andjela Menger.

Tatiana Kukulkova was one of four players from the Slovak Republic to progress through the Round of 128 after she saw off Natalia Malinina of Russia across six games (11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7) while the likes of Spain’s Ana Garcia, Italy’s Jamila Laurenti and Turkey’s Gul Pembe Ozkaya all qualified for the next round.

The Junior Girls’ Singles competition resumes on Sunday 22nd July at 3.30pm (local time) as the seeded players make an appearance.
