Juan Lamadrid and Paulina Vega, the no.2 seeds, experienced defeat in their opening contest; they were beaten by Peru’s Bryan Blas and Angela Mori, the no.12 seeds (13-11, 11-4, 10-12, 6-11, 11-8). Alas the euphoria was short-lived. In the very next round, the quarter-finals, they departed at the hands of Colombia’s Joaquin Villegas and Paula Medina, the no.10 seeds (9-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-5, 11-3).
Likewise compatriots, Gustavo Gomez and Judith Morales, the no.4 seeds, did not progress beyond their opening engagement; they lost to Venezuela’s Cecilio Correa and Neridee Niño (11-3, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6) who, like Bryan Blas and Angela Mori, suffered defeat in the round of the last eight pairs. They were beaten by Ecuador’s Emiliano Riofrio and Astrid Salazar, the no.13 seeds (13-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5).
Troubled times for noteworthy pairings, it was the same for Felipe Olivares and Daniela Ortega, the no.3 seeds; after accounting for Guyana’s Shemar Britton and Chelsea Edghill, the no.15 seeds (11-5, 11-5, 11-8), they suffered a quarter-final defeat at the hands of Argentina’s Horacio Cifuentes and Camila Arguelles, the no.5 seeds (11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11).
At the semi-final stage Vitor Ishiy and Bruna Takahashi meet Horacio Cifuentes and Camila Arguelles; Emiliano Riofrio and Astrid Salazar oppose Joaquin Vanegas and Paula Medina.
The semi-finals and final will be played on the evening of Wednesday 6th June.
