Brazil asserts authority, final places booked

A history of success throughout the years within the continent and beyond, Brazil booked places in the final of both the Men’s Team and Women’s Team events at the 2018 Seamaster 2018 Latin American Championships in the Cuban capital city of Havana.

However, the progress was not without some moments of trepidation.

Cuba with Jorge Campos, Livan Martinez and Juan Rondon on duty extended the trio formed by Eric Jouti, Vitor Ishiy and Thiago Monteiro, the full five match distance.

Similarly, Bruna Takahashi, Gui Lin and Jessica Yamada could not afford any moments of complacency; the Dominican Republic represented by Eva Brito, Yasiris Ortiz and Esmerlyn Castro oproved more than worthy opponents. A three matches to one victory margin was the outcome.

Meanwhile, in the counterpart penultimate round contests, in the Men’s Team event Chile, with Felipe Olivares, Gustavo Gomez and Manuel Moya in action, recorded a three-one win against the Dominican Republic’s Samuel Galvez, Mariano Lockward and Isaac Vila; in a closer contest in the Women’s Team competition Argentina who selected Camila Arguelles, Ana Codina and Candela Molero overcame the Chilean outfit of Paulina Vega, Judith Morales and Cristal Menesis by three matches to two.

Finalists known; in the Mixed Doubles, the semi-finalists are decided, as in the Men’s Team and Women’s Team events, Brazil is prominent.

Vitor Ishiy and Bruna Takahashi meet Chile’s Juan Lamadrid and Paulina Vega; Humberto Manhani and Jessica Yamada oppose Eric Jouti and Gui Lin.

The final of the Men’s Team and Women’s Team events will be played on Wednesday 7th March; play concludes in Havana on Friday 9th March.
