The Czech representative will compete in the Women’s Doubles tournament alongside the Slovak Republic’s Barbora Balazova.

Proving to be a very handy doubles partnership on a number of occasions, notably at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour Platinum Qatar Open where the duo achieved a semi-finals finish, the pairing of Hana Matelova and Barbora Balazova head into the event with great anticipation.

“We are both healthy… and I think well prepared. It is a huge premiere for us and we are both looking forward to it.” Hana Matelova.

Eight partnerships in total will contest the Women’s Doubles draw in Astana with six pairs competing for Asian nations.

The other European team consists of Sweden’s Matilda Ekholm and Hungary’s Georgina Pota, a pairing which lost out to Matelova and Balazova across six games at the Liebherr 2016 European Championships.

“We have defeated Matilda Ekholm and Georgina Pota before, so if we could choose the opponents for the quarter-finals it would be them. Otherwise it doesn’t matter. Here there are no weak rivals.” Hana Matelova.

Matelova isn’t just excited for the ITTF World Tour Grand Finals to get underway but is also looking forward to attending the 2017 ITTF Star Awards ceremony which will take place on the evening of Thursday 14th December.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever brought a social dress with me for a tournament and Baska [Balazova] is exactly the same.” Hana Matelova.
