Unbeaten and thus first place in the initial stage phase against the odds, overcoming the Colombian trio of Luisa Zuluaga, Natalia Bedoya and Angie Umbacia by three matches to two to conclude matters, for Guatemala, the no.12 seeds, later on the second day of play, Tuesday 12th September, in the Women’s Team event at the 2017 ITTF Pan American Championships in Cartagena de Indias, it was defeat.

At the quarter-final stage with Andrea Montufar replacing Lucia Cordero and lining up alongside Mabelyn Enriquez and Andrea Estrada, a three-nil defeat was experienced at the hands of the Argentine combination of Camila Arguelles, Ana Codina and Andrea Montufar.

Defeat for Guatemala, there was also defeat for Canada, the no.4 seeds, the team Guatemala had sensationally beaten the previous day.

Second place in the group the eventual outcome; they experienced defeat at the hands of Puerto Rico, the no.3 seeds; Zhang Mo beat both Melanie Diaz (6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-2) and Adriana Diaz (13-11, 11-6, 11-7) but those were the only successes for the North Americans. Laura Lai was beaten by Adriana Diaz (11-8, 11-2, 11-6) and by Melanie Diaz (11-3, 11-6, 11-2), whilst Alicia Cote suffered at the hands of Daniely Rios (11-3, 11-6, 11-2) in the third match of the fixture.

Success for the third seeds; it was also success at the quarter-final stage for the top two seeds.

The United States with Crystal Wang, Wu Yue and Grace Yang on duty beat the El Salvadorian trio of Estefania Ramirios, Emme Arias and Wang de Ying by three matches to nil; by the same score line, Brazil represented by Bruna Takahashi, Gui Lin and Bruna Alexandre showed no mercy when facing Mexico’s Alejandra Cevantes, Yadira Silva and Dulce Machinena.

At the semi-final stage the United States plays Puerto Rico, Argentina opposes Brazil.
