The 2017 SEA Games is scheduled to take place in August in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

Phan Anh Tuan, who is the head of the table tennis division at the Vietnamese General Department of Sports and Physical Training told Xinhua that the Vietnamese squad has high aspirations for the upcoming event.

“Our 10 athletes will receive training in the Chinese city of Nanning from July 20th to August 15th, and will leave Hanoi on August 18th for Malaysia, targeting one gold, one silver and two bronze at the 2017 SEA Games,” Phan Anh Tuan.

Two years ago, at the most recent edition of the SEA Games, Vietnam scored six medals across the seven separate table tennis categories including a silver medal finish in the Men’s Team event.

Now heading into the 2017 SEA Games expectations for the Vietnamese contingent are even higher, and Phan Anh Tuan has highlighted two of the country’s players who could enjoy successful campaigns in August.

“At the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore, our table tennis players won one silver and five bronzes. This time, personally, I pin big hopes on Nguyen Anh Tu and Mai Hoang My Trang,” Phan Anh Tuan.

Nguyen Anh Tu picked up one silver medal and one bronze medal in the Men’s Team and Men’s Doubles competitions respectively at the 2015 SEA Games, while Mai Hoang My Trang contributed three bronze medals for her country across the Women’s Singles, Women’s Team and Mixed Doubles categories.
