The ITTF Umpires and Referees Committee invites International Umpires to officiate at the forthcoming Sun International 2016 World Junior Championships.

Staged in Cape Town, South Africa, play commences on Wednesday 30th November and concludes on Wednesday 7th December.

It is an open invitation; therefore, not all nominations may be accepted.

Furthermore, only nominations submitted by bona fide national associations will be considered.

A national association may nominate one International Umpire who has achieved Blue Badge status, or alternatively, has attended a certified Advanced Umpire Training course and passed the Advanced Rules Examination.

Also a national association may propose one International Umpire (White Badge) who has been active internationally for at least two years but has not yet attended an Advanced Umpire Training course. Any nominee in this category should be one of a national association’s most promising new umpires capable of achieving Blue Badge status within two years.

It is ITTF policy to encourage female participation whenever possible, as an incentive, if one of the umpires nominated in the above categories is female, a third nomination may be made in the Blue Badge or Blue Badge in progress category.

Selection is based on geographic boundaries and an approximately equal division between Blue Badge, Blue Badge in progress and White Badge umpires.

Full hospitality will be provided in a twin room from dinner on Tuesday 29th November to breakfast on Thursday 8th December.

Each umpire will receive a daily allowance per competition day according to ITTF regulation.

All invited umpires must organize their own transport to the region as well as travel and medical insurance. In addition, all invited umpires are responsible for early arrival and late departure.

Local transport will be provided from and to Cape Town International Airport (IATA Code: CPT).

Should a nominated umpire require a visa, kindly send relevant details when submitting the nomination (full name as in passport, date of birth, place of birth, passport number, expiry date of passport). A letter of invitation will be provided.

Please note that all costs associated with the visa application are the responsibility of the applicant and the issuance of a visa is at the sole discretion of the relevant Consulate or Embassy.

Umpires must wear the International umpiring uniforms as described in the Handbook for Match Officials.

An Advanced Umpire Training Course followed by an Advanced Rules Examination will also be conducted on Tuesday 29th November from 8.30am to 6.00pm. All qualified White Badge Umpires selected for this event must attend this course.

Participants are responsible for the course and advanced rules examination fee of US$50.00 per person.

Evaluations will be conducted.

A meeting with the Referee will be held on Tuesday 29th November.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 7th October 2016. The list of umpires accepted will be advised on or before Friday 14th October 2016.
