Team France has accepted the Team quota relocation from Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), with Stephanie Loeuillette being added as the third player to the team.

The French National Olympic Committee (NOC) had earlier confirmed Yuan Jia Nan and Prithika Pavade as the two players previously qualified.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) decided that the International Federations (IFs) concerned may immediately reallocate any sporting quota places won by athletes from DPRK for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 to other NOCs in accordance with the IFs’ published qualification systems. This decision has been taken now in order to respect the interest of athletes who are next in line and cannot wait any longer.

Yuan Jia Nan and Prithika Pavade will feature in the women’s singles for Team France while Stephanie Loeuillette will join Yuan and Pavade in the team events.

The French men’s trio of Simon Gauzy, Emmanuel Lebesson and Alexandre Cassin had already been confirmed earlier for the men’s team event. Gauzy and Lebesson are also confirmed for the men’s singles while Lebesson and Yuan will partner each other in the mixed doubles, which is making its debut at this year’s Olympics.

The qualification system for the Tokyo Olympics is based on the following:

  1. 48 places per gender are allocated for the 16 men’s and women’s team events, and these places are given concurrently with other qualification events.
  1. A maximum of 70 places are available for each of the men’s and women’s singles events. The final number will be determined based on the players who have qualified for the other events. There is a total of 86 players per gender across all three events.
  1. 16 mixed doubles pairs are available for the mixed doubles event.

The table tennis competition gets underway at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from 24 July to 6 August 2021.
