Silver medallist at ITTF Challenge Series tournaments earlier this year in Spain and Nigeria, in the twilight of his career, Robert Gardos has proved most consistent and is certainly relishing the Tokyo task.

Robert Gardos explained.

“In Japan, they are fond of putting up a perfect organisation; so I can’t wait to witness another best from Japan. I must admit that this tournament will be a preparation for Olympics, if we qualify, to know the hall and the place. We will try our best to see what can happen.”

I think in best of five games in the team events, the players’ form for the day is very important. So I hope we will have some perfect days and high performance; then we can beat some of the best teams in the competition.

I think the first target for us to make it to the quarter-final and try our best in the next stage. Also we can cause upset but this depends solely on our form but I think in this system of play, we may be stronger than in the normal three against three format.

We have league matches on Sunday in France and Germany and we will arrive just a day before the tournament, so it will be very difficult start but I hope we can bring our best with us.”
