Six titles decided on the third day of play, Sunday 14th April, at the 2019 Caribbean Junior and Cadet Championships in Santo Domingo; Puerto Rico and the host nation, the Dominican Republic, shared the honours.

Most notably, the Dominican Republic’s Esmerlyn Castro, alongside Puerto Rico’s Sebastian Gallo and Zulnamy Soto, gold medallists the previous day in the team events, added two further titles to their collection.

Esmerlyn Castro partnered colleague Mariano Lockward to success in the junior mixed doubles event, before in the junior girls’ doubles competition emerging successful in partnership with Dayhana Rojas. In the former at the final hurdle, the duo accounted for Puerto Rico’s Gabriel Perez and Edmarie Leon (11-6, 11-5, 6-11, 11-4), in the latter it was success in opposition to colleagues Rosa Torres and Estefany Rodriguez (11-6, 6-11, 12-10, 11-4).

Two titles for Esmerlyn Castro on the third day of action, it was the same for Mariano Lockward, he joined forces with compatriot, Pedro Cabrera to secure the top prize in the junior boys’ doubles competition. In the title deciding contest, the combination accounted for the Barbadian duo of Marcus Smith and Ramon Maxell (11-6, 11-9, 11-7).

Success for the Dominican Republic, it was matched by Puerto Rico, Sebastian Gallo and Zulnamy Soto the star names. The duo joined forces to win the cadet mixed doubles event overcoming colleagues Derek Valentin and Kristal Melendez in the final (8-11, 11-6, 2-11, 11-1, 11-7). Earlier, Zulnamy Sotos had partnered Yoarilis Fugueroa to secure cadet girls’ doubles gold, in a further hard fought all Puerto Rican final, the duo overcame Kristal Melendez and Alondra Rodriguez (11-5, 4-11, 11-5, 15-17, 11-6).

Meanwhile, in the one remaining event on the day’s schedule, Sebastian Gallo partnered Jan Gonzalez to cadet boys’ doubles gold; in the title decider the duo over Jamlli Mauge and Nicolas Lee from Trinidad and Tobago (11-6, 11-6, 11-6).
