Part two of our Q&A series leading up to the Liebherr 2019 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships sees Chinese Taipei star Cheng I-Ching take centre stage.

Women’s Singles quarter-finalist at Rio 2016 Cheng I-Ching has since gone on to establish herself as one of the biggest names in the sport having won three medals at the Women’s World Cup (one silver, two bronze) and a Mixed Doubles silver at the Liebherr 2017 World Championships alongside Chen Chien-An.

Definitely a contender for the latter stages of the tournament Cheng I-Ching will be in attendance at next month’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary which takes place from Sunday 21st to Sunday 28th April.

Q) How did you first get into table tennis?

A) My older sister started to play table tennis first and I was always there to help her pick up the balls. Then later the coach thought I was very fast in picking up balls and he suggested that I start playing table tennis as well.

Q) What is your favourite part of table tennis?

A) This sport is full of uncertainty. You never know who will win until the ball hits the floor. This is my favourite part of table tennis.

Q) Do you have any hobbies outside of table tennis?

A) I love reading in my spare time, especially inspirational books.

Q) What is your favourite place in the whole world and why?

A) My favourite place is picturesque Maldives. The view there is super nice.

Q) Who is your favourite athlete?

A) My favourite athlete is Stephen Curry from the NBA.

Q) If you could be any superhero, which one would you choose?

A) I would like to be Ant-Man, because he can change his size anytime – sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller. And he can fly anytime as well!

Q) Have you ever been to Budapest?

A) Yes, at the beginning of this year I went to Budapest. I have a nice memory there about eating my dinner on a boat on the Danube.

Q) What would you say to fans who are thinking of attending the World Championships?

A) The world’s best players will be there, so make sure you come and watch us play!
