The no.2 seed, Nicolas Burgos accounted for Guilherme Teodoro, the top seed, in an engagement that was as intensely contested as their meeting in the Caribbean; on that occasion a full distance seven games verdict had been the outcome; in the Chilean capital city matters were resolved in just one game less (11-9, 6-11, 3-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-9).

Victory in the final against Guilherme Teodoro, Nicolas Burgos very much proved the nemesis of Brazil; at the quarter-final stage he beat Diogo Silva, the no.12 seed (11-8, 11-2, 11-6, 17-15), prior to recording a penultimate round success in opposition to Rafael Torino, the no.5 seed (11-9, 11-7, 11-4, 11-6).

Meanwhile, in the opposite half of the draw, Brazil had been very much in evidence, after accounting for Argentine qualifier, Matias Velarde, Guilherme Teodoro ended the hopes of colleague, Lauro Sebold, the no.15 seed (9-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-3,9-11, 11-8) to reserve his place in the final.

Disappointment for Brazil in the junior boys’ singles event, in the counterpart junior girls’ singles competition it was success. Livia Lima, the no.3 seed, emerged the victor.

On the concluding day of play, after accounting for Chile’s Natalie Ramos, the no.5 seed (7-11, 11-7, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8) and Peru’s Gianella Huapaya, the no.14 seed (11-4, 7-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5), the winner the previous day over top seed, Paraguay’s Leyla Gomez (6-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-13, 11-6, 12-10, 13-11); in a close fought seven games contest, she beat Ecuador’s Nathaly Paredes, the no.2 seed (12-10, 8-11, 11-3, 11-3, 12-10) to claim the title.

In the adjacent half of the draw, on the concluding day of play, Nathaly Paredes had beaten Peru’s Alessandra Cisneros, the no.8 seed (11-7, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9) and Chile’s Valentina Rios, the no.4 seed (12-10, 8-11, 11-3, 11-3, 12-10) to reserve her place in the final.

A break now of one day, the five day 2019 Chile Junior and Cadet Open commences in Santiago on Wednesday 20th March.
