The German table tennis legend picks up the prize at Borussia Düsseldorf’s awards ceremony on Wednesday

A career list littered with honours of all kinds got even longer last night for Timo Boll.

The 37-year-old German table tennis star picked up the “Player of the Year” award from his club Borussia Düsseldorf for an incredible 8th time since joining the outfit in 2007.

“I am very happy to win this award and I am glad to get it in person. In the past we often had matches which clashed with the awards ceremony. This tribute means a lot to me because it recognises the good performances I put in during 2018. I could never have believed three or four years ago that I would be able to play again at the same level as the best players in the world at this age.”

Joining Timo Boll as nominees for the award were Para player, Thomas Schmidberger, coach Danny Heister and the Borussia Düsseldorf team. Voting was made by the public and sports journalists of Düsseldorf.
