He started the day by partnering Wong Xinru to mixed doubles success, the pair accounting for Pang Xue Jie and Zhang Wanling in five games (11-4, 7-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-7) to seal title.
A short break, in harness with Ethan Poh Shao Feng, the men’s doubles title was secured at the expense of the combination formed by Dominic Koh Song Jun and Lucas Tan; a straight games victory was recorded (11-8, 11-8, 11-6).
Two titles secured; the third came in the contest that brought the tournament to a conclusion.
Pang Yew En Koen beat Josh Chua Shao Han (11-5, 11-7, 14-12, 11-4) to reserve the top step of the men’s singles podium.
Success for youth, it was the same in the women’s doubles final but not in the women’s singles deciding contest.
Both 13 years old Zhou Jingyi and Ser Linqian combined to secure the women’s doubles title beating the 17 year olds Wong Xinru and Goi Ruixuan (11-8, 11-8, 11-6). Meanwhile, Yu Mengyu, now 29 years old, accounted for 23 year old Lin Ye (12-10, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9) to be crowned the women’s singles champion.
Young players were very much in evidence; most notably Nicholas Tan, 12 years old, a member of the Junior Development Squad, impressed. He received cheques amounting to S$6,800.00 (US$5,000.00); made possible thanks to the Singapore Table Tennis Association’s Competition and Training Subsidy initiative alongside the Youth Development Bursary. The financial support is to assist with both practising overseas and competing in international tournaments.
A total prize fund of S$13,800.00 (US$8,000.00), Ellen Lee JP, PBM, the President of the Singapore Table Tennis presented the awards.
