The post is supported by the Sports Authority of India, an autonomous body which operates under the direction of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport.

Candidates must be able to communicate in English, be physically fit and able to demonstrate the necessary technical skills.

Furthermore, candidates should be below 65 years of age. However, in exceptional cases, the Sports Authority of India may consider a more senior coach based on credentials. Applicants should have played at world or continental level and have previous experience of coaching successful national teams

A salary is commensurate with international standards and is based on experience, qualification and proven track record will be remunerated.

It is proposed that the coach will be engaged for a period of one year which may be extended depending on performance; the successful candidate will be assigned specific goals and will be required to travel nationwide.
