Present in no less than three Olympic Games, she competed in Sydney in 2000, four years later in Athens and more recently in 2012 in London; her efforts were recognised by Ing. Benjamin Real, the President of both the Paraguayan Table Tennis Federation and the South American Table Tennis Confederation. A special ceremony staged in her honour
“For me it is always a pleasure to receive this type of recognition and even more now that I am going into another cycle in my life. I learn more than I teach them. From now on I really hope to sharing every day with the young players and at the same time, transmit a bit of experience gained in all these years.” Ligia Silva
Experienced no doubt, Ligia Silva is well aware of the pressure that emanates from clubs and parents, hopeful of instant success and future glory.
“They still have to go through stages, process by process, we should not confuse them with adults, I want to work step by step with them, that is my goal.” Ligia Silva
Notably, the last time Ligia visited Paraguay was to participate in the 2014 Latin American Cup; now she is excited about her new role.
“We are here to play independent of result; results are the consequence of the work done. We must build on those results; it is necessary to play each round and each phase first. We know we are the favourites but beware that one must build on that favouritism.” Ligia Silva
