Success for Guatemala in the Men’s Team and Women’s Team events at 2017 Central American Games in the Nicaraguan capital city of Managua; that success continued on the third day of play, Friday 15th December.

In each of the Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles events, Guatemala provided both finalists.

Hector Gatica combined with Heber Moscoso to win the Men’s Doubles top prize and with Andrea Estrada to claim Mixed Doubles gold; in the Women’s Doubles competition Lucia Cordero and Andrea Montufar reserved the top step of the podium.

At the final hurdle Hector Gatica and Heber Moscoso accounted for Allan Guttierez and Kevin Montufar in four games (12-14, 114, 11-8, 11-2), a similar margin of victory having been recorded against Nicaragua’s Denilson Castellon and Luis Moreno at the quarter-final stage (11-9, 118, 9-11, 11-7) and one round later when opposing Panama’s Omer Avi-Tal and Jacobo Vahnish (11-6, 8-11, 11-3, 11-8).

Likewise for Allan Guttierez and Kevin Montufar, it was one game surrendered in each round en route to the final. In the round of the last eight pairs they beat Panama’s Justo Altamiranda and Raul Miranda (11-4, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9) prior to reserving their place in the final courtesy of success in opposition to El Salvador’s Julio Calderon and Diego Orantes (11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8).

Impressive performances; it was the same in the Women’s Doubles event for Lucia Cordero and Andrea Montufar. At the quarter-final stage they overcame Nicaragua’s Brisa Prado and Georgina Prado (11-8, 11-6, 11-7), prior to overcoming El Salvador’s Emme Arias and Estefania Ramirios (11-7, 5-11, 14-12, 12-10) to reserve their place in the final.

Good form en route to the final, it was good former in the final; they accounted for Mabelyn Enriquez and Andrea Estrada to seal the top prize (11-5, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7).

Earlier at the quarter-final stage, Mabelyn Enriquez and Andrea Estrada had beaten Costa Rica’s Angie Araya and Florella Vallecillo (11-9, 11-6, 11-3), prior to ending the aspirations of El Salvador’s Dinora Salazar and Wang de Ying (11-5, 11-9, 11-6).

Meanwhile in the Mixed Doubles event, at the final hurdle Hector Gatica and Andrea Estrada accounted for Kevin Montufar and Lucia Cordero (11-3, 11-8, 11-5).

Earlier at the quarter-final stage, Hector Gatica and Andrea Estrada had beaten colleagues Heber Moscoso and Mabelyn Enriquez (11-7, 11-6, 11-7), prior to recording a penultimate round win over El Salvador’s Julio Calderon and Estefania Ramirios (12-10, 11-6, 11-8).
