Gold medallist earlier in the day in the Men’s Team event at the 59th Caribbean Championships in Havana, Cuba, alongside Jorge Campos and Andy Pereira; in the late afternoon of Thursday 20th July it was back to action for the host nation’s Livan Martinez. Furthermore, it was back to action and more success.

The top seed in the Under 21 Men’s Singles event, he secured top place in his group, finishing ahead of Aruba’s Jean-Claude Hoek and Trehdel Lake from St. Kitts and Nevis.

Likewise, in an initial phase which witnessed six groups, players finishing in first and second places advancing to the main draw, there was more success for Cuba; Carlos Hernandez reserved top spot ahead of St. Lucia’s Andrew Daniels and Jamaica’s Rajni Gavin Brown.

Two first places for Cuba; it was the very same for the Dominican Republic. Mariano Lockward finished ahead of Jamaica’s Kyle Davidson and Dominica’s Chea Seaman; similarly, Isaac Vila topped his group with Puerto Rico’s Sebastian Echevarria and Aruba’s Jean-Pierre Helmeyer being the next in the order of merit.

Notably, in the two remaining groups, Guyana and Puerto Rico excelled. Shemar Britton, flew the flag for Guyana; Gabriel Perez for Puerto Rico. Martinique’s Samuel de Lepine secured runners up spot behind Shemar Britton with Dominica’s Jaheel Lewis being in third place; Trinidad and Tobago’s Arun Roopnarine ended matters in second position behind Gabriel Perez with Tyrese Knight of Barbados concluding matters in third place.

Similarly, in the Under 21 Women’s Singles, a competition that witnessed four groups in the opening phase, Cuba was very much in evidence.

Idalys Lovett ended matters ahead of Puerto Rico’s Amanda Chavarria and Dominica’s Alliah Prince; likewise Shelly Machado Fernandez topped her group with next in line being Puerto Rico’s Ana Paola Rivera, Jamaica’s Onika Yanika Francis and Guyana’s Priscilla Greaves.

Top places for Cuba, in the two remaining groups it was honours shared between the Dominican Republic and Guyana. The Dominican Republic’s Esmerlyn Castro secured top spot ahead of Jamaica’s Brittany Murray with Martinique’s Mevene Avrila and Shania Harris from St. Kitts and Nevis next on the list. Guyana’s Chelsea Edghill topped her group ahead of the Dominican Republic’s Cinthya Sanchez, Cherese Darcheville and Martinique’s Oceane Miredin.

Meanwhile, in the Men’s Singles Over 45 years event, the Dominican Republic’s Juan Santos and Dominica’s Edgar Berridge alongside Trinidad and Tobago’s David Mahabir and Cuba’s Adrian Hernandez secured semi-final positions following the group stage of proceedings.

The winner yet to be known; in the Women’s Singles Over 45 years, the outcome was decided. In the title deciding contest, French Guiana’s Corinne Vaillant beat Guyana’s Dianne Chance to secure the top prize (10-12, 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9).
