TV success |
80 million viewers in China during the week of the Championship |
Once again the Chinese were in front of the TV to see their table tennis heroes take home the World Championship titles.
CCTV’s ratings for the 2004 LIEBHERR World Table Tennis Team Championship were solid all week. 28 million saw the Chinese men beat Germany in the Men’s Team Final. 24 million followed the Chinese women when they overcame Hong Kong in the final.

The "Page" system Final in Doha |
In Doha, at the 2004 Liebherr World Team Championships, a new system of play was used. The main features of this system are small Divisions of 12 teams, and the controversial "Page" system.
A Working Group is being formed to study the Team Playing system for future World Team Championships.

The crowds came through in Doha |
The 2004 Liebherr Table Tennis Team Championships finished with a great bang, literally. The closing ceremonies featuring fireworks and a laser show "inside" the centre court followed a dramatic steamroll of the German men by the powerful Chinese in a decisive 3-0 victory.

The lights dimmed, the band played, laser beams traversed the centre court arena, a sense of theatre was created, the effect was dramatic whilst reporters and enthusiasts trying to make the call home on their mobile telephones were drowned out as drums and trumpets signalled the start of the presentation ceremony.

WANG Hao gave China the ideal start in the final of the Men’s Team event at the Liebherr World Table Tennis Championships in Doha; he was the faster out of the starting blocks and Timo BOLL, the hero of Germany’s semi-final victory over Korea one day earlier, was beaten in straight games.
