New Zealand’s 18 year old Jenny Hung wrote a new episode in her table tennis career, when on Friday 3rd July 2009 she captured her first ever ITTF Junior Circuit Girls’ Singles title by emerging successful at the Australian Junior Open.
Victory for New Zealand and in so doing Jenny Hung became the first New Zealander and the first player from Oceania to win an ITTF Junior Circuit Singles title?
Seeded no.2, she secured gold in the Queensland city of Gold Coast beating top seed, Shermaine Lam, in the final in a close seven games duel.

A total of 12 participants from 10 countries, including two from the Competition Management Department, attended the International Referees Seminar in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest from Wednesday 24th to Saturday 27th June 2009.
It was the first of its kind to be staged after the pilot project in Moscow in 2008.

Turkey’s 20 year old Hu Melek, a player who is establishing herself on the international scene, won the Women’s Singles title in the table tennis events at the Mediterranean Games in the Italian town of Pesara on Wednesday 1st July 2009.
At the final hurdle, she accounted for Li Xue of France in four straight games, having earlier in the proceedings recorded a six games win over the more experienced Wenling Tan Monfardini of Italy in the quarter-finals and Aikaterini Ntoulaki of Greece in the semi-finals.
It was Turkish delight in Pesara.

Panagiotis Gionis of Greece, a predominantly backspin player with a devastating forehand topspin, won the Men’s Singles title in the table tennis events at the Mediterranean Games in the Italian town of Pesara on Wednesday 1st July 2009.
The 29 year old who had shown outstanding form at the H.I.S World Championships in Yokohama earlier in the year maintained that form on Italian soil.
At the quarter-final stage he overcame Turkey’s Bora Vang before ousting Spain’s Carlos Machado in the semi-finals and 23 year old Croatian, Andrej Gacina in the final.
