Mr Sahara: I have communicated with your office before. I understand that at this meeting to be held at Zagreb, the following items will be dicussed and/or voted on.
The ball be be made larger to 42mm or 44mm. Change the net height to 61/2 inches Change the service rule to try to have the serve less hideable. Change the size of the table from 4x8 to 4x9. The ball change from 38mm to 40mm , to my current has only made the ball more expensive in the United States. I cannot speak for Europe or Asia.
Some clubs in the U.S. could maybe afford to do this but not all. At $60 per net, it is anyone's guess what would happen to the smaller clubs. This change is all about enforcement. I do not know who is going to enforce a 12'' toss. I have already mentioned that the current glueing rules are never enforced anywhere in the U.S.but the players are sent to a special area to do it.
Well Sir, At the price of $800 to $900 per table, which is the going rate for a good table in the U.S., Some clubs having as many as 16 tables would need to buy new tables at a cost of $12,800. No club in the U.S. has that much money. The other clubs which are smaller will cease to exist.
To improve participation in the sport, seeing it at my level only, not at the level which you see, I believe that long pips should receive more discussion, with emphasis on elimination.
I was witness in the U.S. Nationals to a player 60 years old who played with long pips, no sponge and never moved more that 1 foot from the table. Many 2200 level players did not know how to play this man. It is one of the most shining examples I have witnessed for the elimination of long pips. I personally will not play long pips again, epecially the players who shift between backhand to forehand during the match. This requires me to have 4 times the level of concentration as my opponent has. That is not what I call a level playing field.
Thank You Sir,
