Thank you very much for your concern and please let us know your opinion again in a year's time, especially after the introduction of the new service rule.
In the meantime I encourage you to visit the President's Forum on the ITTF web site.
Adham Sharara , President
Gentlemen,
As a long time fan of table tennis and a member of a local club here in Greenville, SC, USA, I would like to express dissatisfaction over the 11 point game.
I have always been an unabashed supporter of the 40mm ball and I think most everyone now appreciates this rule change. Visibility and ball speed supports both a greater range of player abilities and spectator pleasure. The 40mm ball has not, however, significantly increased rallies as was one of the intentions of the rule change. If this is still an objective of the ITTF, they should consider increasing the height of the net.
I also look forward to the new rule keeping the ball in plain sight on the serve, this is truly in the spirit of the game. Although not initially sure about the 11 point game, after experience both playing and viewing matches, I now feel it is simply too short. It is too easy to lose early in a game and thus the match. The element of a determined player making a come back in a game must not be denied. We have had a few in our club not play recently citing the 11 point game.
Although a 21 point game is perhaps too long, 11 is certainly too short. I think a 15 point game would be a good compromise, with alternating serves every three serves.
I commend the ITTF for its willingness to adapt and improve the sport and hope they continue to have the courage and foresight to improve table tennis for our generation and generations to come.
