CONTINENTAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS

 

The ITTF has greatly increased funding for Development over recent years.

Funding is provided to each continent through a negotiated “Agreement of Understanding”, currently in place for 2002-2003.

 

The ITTF Development Program aims at leaving the maximum possible legacy from activities conducted and through the continents fund such activities as:

 

  1. Development Officers-conducting coach education, coach education presentor training, training camps, school teacher inservices, school clinics, tournament organisation courses [introductory], umpires courses [introductory], assistance with development plans, assistance with meetings and submissions to NOC’s and government bodies.
  2. Training Camps.
  3. High Performance Coaching Courses
  4. Umpires and Referees Seminars.
  5. Equipment assistance to developing nations.

 

Continental Federations decide who will receive courses and equipment assistance, however this is generally on a rotational or needs basis.

 

 

 

 

OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY 2001-2004-WORLD PROGRAMS

 

Olympic Solidarity is funded by the International Olympic Committee.

 

For the period 2001-2004 there are 21 World Programs that may be applied for that include programs for Coaches, Athletes, NOC Management and Special Fields such as Women and Sport, and Sports Medicine.

 

Of particular interest to National Table Tennis Associations are:

 

Athletes:

 

  • Olympic Scholarships, 2004
  • Youth Development Program
  • Regional and Continental Games-NOC Preparation Program

 

Coaches:

 

  • Technical Courses
  • Scholarships for Coaches
  • Development of a National Coaching Structure

 

Applications are made through your National Olympic Committee, by the National Table Tennis Association.

ITTF DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2002-2003

 

The ITTF Development Mission statement is as follows:

“The ITTF actively promotes table tennis world-wide by creating a structured, sequential and progressive pyramid development and competition structure for athletes, coaches, administrators, and match officials, from beginner level to Olympic Games”.

BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS [Poverty, Injustice, AIDS, Drugs, Alcohol] WITH TABLE TENNIS BALLS

 

This is a new 22 page introductory level program aimed at School Teachers, Youth Workers, Community Groups and Beginner Coaches, with the following guiding principles:

 

  1. Simple, effective means to increase mass participation at the introductory level with minimal equipment.
  2. Uses table tennis as a vehicle to assist social change by providing a humanitarian message.

 

Over time there will be several versions that allow for continental differences and cultural sensitivities.

TOPS-TABLE TENNIS IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM

 

"TOPS-Table Tennis in Schools Program" was produced in Australia by the ITTF Development Program Manager, Glenn Tepper and Table Tennis Victoria, Australia, Development Officer, Alois Rosario.

The Program is divided into easy to follow sections for use by school teachers and club coaches, aimed at the beginner level, and for use by teachers with minimal table tennis experience.

The sections include:

·         5 Lesson Plan for 5-8 year olds

·         15 Lesson Plans for 9-16 year olds

·         Activity Cards

·         Skills Circuits

·         Competition Formats

·         Assessment and Skills Awards

·         Rules

The program is copyrighted by Table Tennis Australia and Table Tennis Victoria, who give permission to download the manual for personal use.
