Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yuling emerged as the respective Menís Singles and Womenís Singles champions at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on Sunday 16th November.

Furthermore, not only did Zhu Yuling win the Womenís Singles title; earlier in the day she had partnered Liu Shiwen to Womenís Doubles success. Alas, for Fan Zhendong he fell just one step short of matching the efforts of Liu Shiwen. In the Menís Doubles event, the silver medal was his lot in partnership with compatriot Xu Xin.....

Winner earlier in the year in Kuwait, Chinaís Fan Zhendong won the Menís Singles title at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open Stockholm on the afternoon of Sunday 16th November.

The no.2 seed, at the final hurdle he accounted for Chinese National Team compatriot, Fang Bo, the no.13 seed, to arrest the title.

Fan Zhendong after winning the first two games had to withstand a spirited recovery from Fang Bo, who levelled matters in the fourth game, before emerging successful in six games (14-12, 18-16, 6-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-5).....

Zhu Yuling Defies Seeding, Captures Stockholm Crown in Commanding Fashion

On a day when former World Junior champions were to the fore with Fan Zhendong and Fang Bo progressing to the final of the Menís Singles event; in the counterpart Womenís Singles competition, another player to have claimed that honour was very much in the limelight.

Zhu Yuling, the winner in a snowbound Bratislava in 2010, won the Womenís Singles title at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on the afternoon of Sunday 16th November.

The no.2 seed, she accounted for compatriot, Liu Shiwen, the no.1 seed, in an all Chinese final; the result being an upset for several reasons.

Reversal of Fortunes for Yan An, Menís Doubles Title Secured with Wang Hao

Defeat one year ago in the Menís Doubles final but success in the ensuing Menís Singles gold medal contest; one year later at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm, for Yan An it was somewhat a reversal of fortunes.

On the penultimate day of play he had suffered a quarter-final Menís Singles defeat at the hands of compatriot Fan Zhendong; one day later on Sunday 16th November there was a degree of compensation.

Partnering Wang Hao, the duo accounted for Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin to capture the Menís Doubles crown; they won in five games (11-3, 4-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6).....

Occupying the fourth seeded position in the draw, Liu Shiwen and Zhu Yuling won the Womenís Doubles title at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on Sunday 16th November.

In an all-Chinese affair, at the final hurdle they overcame Hu Limei and Wu Yang, a pairing who had been seeded and had been required to play in the preliminary stage of proceedings.

Earlier in the day the attacking top spin skills had overcome the backspin art when, at the semi-final stage of the Womenís Singles event, Liu Shiwen had beaten Wu Yang and Zhu Yuling had overcome Germanyís Han Ying.....

World Junior Champions Reach Final, Semi-Final Exits for Xu Xin and Wang Hao

Former World Junior champions, Fang Bo in 2009 and Fan Zhendong in 2012, emerged successful in the penultimate round of the Menís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on Sunday 16th November.

In all Chinese contests, Fang Bo, the no.13 seed, upset the pecking order by beating Xu Xin, the top seed in six games (12-10, 11-9, 4-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-4), before in a most impressive manner, Fan Zhendong, the no.2 seed, halted the aspirations of Wang Hao, the no.4 seed.

Fan Zhendong beat Wang Hao in four straight games (11-8, 11-9, 11-2, 11-9).....

Attacking Skills Prevail, End of Road for Defenders in the Eriksdalshallen

Chinaís Liu Shiwen and Zhu Yuling, the respective top two seeds were the players to emerge successful at the semi-final stage of the Womenís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on the morning of Sunday 16th November.

Liu Shiwen overcame compatriot Wu Yang, the no.3 seed, by the very narrowest of margins in a full distance seven games duel (11-8, 11-4, 7-11, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 15-13), before rather more comfortably, in a second contest which attack versus defence, Zhu Yuling accounted for Germanyís Han Ying, the no.4 seed.

Zhu Yuling won in four straight games (11-5, 11-4, 11-6, 11-9).....
