Love Affair with Linz Continues, Ding Ning Wins Women’s World Cup

Winner of the Women’s World Cup in Singapore in 2011, the only other occasion that she has competed in the prestigious annual tournament, China’s Ding Ning repeated the feat in the Austrian city of Linz on the early evening of Sunday 19th October.

In Singapore, at the final hurdle, she had beaten colleague, Li Xiaoxia in the final in five games (11-9, 11-5, 7-11, 14-12, 11-9); in Linz she prevailed in four straight game(11-7, 11-9, 13-11, 11-5).

Third place went to Japan’s Kasumi Ishikawa; she overcame Hungary’s Georgina Pota in a contest that went the full seven match distance (11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3,7-11, 11-9, 11-4) to secure her best ever finish in a Women’s World Cup one her third appearance.

Guided by Kong Linghui, the owner during his career of every major title the sport has to offer, China’s Ding Ning and Li Xiaoxia, the respective top two seeds, emerged successful at the semi-final stage of proceedings at the 2014 Women’s World Cup in Linz on the afternoon of Sunday 19th October.

However, both endured testing times. Ding Ning was extended to six games by Japan’s Kasumi Ishikawa, the no.3 seed, (11-6, 11-3, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7) before Li Xiaoxia defeated Hungary’s Georgina Pota, the no.10 seed, in one game less.

Nevertheless, for Kong Linghui it was mission accomplished.....

A brave effort but it was to be in vain. The host nation’s Liu Jia responded to local support in the Sportzentrum Lissfeld, on the concluding match of the second day of action, Saturday 18th October, at the 2014 Women’s World Cup

Alas for Austria it was to be defeat. The no.5 seed, she was beaten in a full distance duel by China’s Li Xiaoxia. The Olympic and World champion, the no.2 seed, emerged successful in seven games (7-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-3, 9-11, 14-16, 11-4).

Austrian dreams faded in the Linz night air but for Hungary’s Georgina Pota, in the immediate preceding match, they came true.....

Success came the way of China’s Ding Ning and Japan’s Kasumi Ishikawa in the top half of the draw at the quarter-final stage of the 2014 Women’s World Cup in Linz, Austria on the evening of Saturday 18th October.

Ding Ning, the top seed, withstood a brave effort by a spirited Hu Melek of Turkey, the no.12 seed (11-9, 11-4, 11-9, 9-11,11-9), before Kasumi Ishikawa, the no.3 seed, emerged successful in an all Japanese clash.

She beat Sayaka Hirano, the no.8 seed (11-5, 11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 3-11, 11-5).....

Totally Recovered Sayaka Hirano Makes Fine Start to Campaign

Winner on the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belarus Open in Minsk but then immediately after, during the last week of August, forced to withdraw from the matters in the Czech Republic owing to a leg injury; on the afternoon of Saturday 18th October at the 2014 Women’s World Cup in Linz; Sayaka Hirano proved she was once again fit and well.

In the opening round of proceedings, occupying the no.8 seeded position in the competition and playing her first match in the tournament, she beat Germany’s Wu Jiaduo, the no.11 seed, in five games (11-9, 11-6, 11-3, 3-11, 11-9).

A five games success and it was a second consecutive win for Sayaka Hirano over Wu Jiaduo.....

First place in her group in the opening phase of proceedings beating both Australia’s Jian Fang Lay and Chinese Taipei’s Cheng I-Ching in a most impressive manner;

Hungary’s Georgina Pota not only continued her excellent form on the second day of action, Saturday 18th October, she raised her level of performance.

The no.10 seed, she upset the status quo by beating Hong Kong’s Lee Ho Ching, the no.6 seed, to reserve her place in the quarter-finals.....

Patience is Golden, Jiang Huajun Displays Quality in Abundance

Defeat in her opening match on the first day of play against Germany’s Wu Jiaduo but a place in the main draw secured courtesy of success against Brazil’s Caroline Kumahara; Hong Kong’s Jiang Huajun was the player in form on day two at the 2014 Women’s World Cup in the Austrian city of Linz

She upset the pecking order in the first round of affairs late on the morning of Saturday 18th October.

The no.13 seed, in a most controlled manner, she beat Korea’s dancing queen and no.4 seed, Seo Hyowon in five games to reserve her place in the quarter-finals (11-9, 11-7. 11-6, 2-11, 11-8).
