Canada Adds Men’s Team Title to Collection, Eugene Wang and Zhang Mo Strike Gold

The host nation celebrated as matters came to a close at the 2014 ITTF-North American Championships in the Toronto suburb of Missassauga on Monday 1st September.

Represented by Pierre-Luc Theriault, Filip Ilijevski and Xavier Therien; Canada won the Men’s Team event after earlier in the day Eugene Wang and Zhang Mo had captured the respective Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles titles.

Success on the concluding day of action added to the success of one day earlier, when the Maple Leaf had also flown high.....

Jack Wang Shock Winner, Crystal Wang as Anticipated, Champions in Mississauga

A complete outsider, occupying the no.11 seeded place in the draw, Jack Wang of the United States emerged as the surprise winner of the Junior Boys’ Singles title at the ITTF-North American Championships in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga on Monday 1st September.

At the final hurdle, he accounted for Canada’s Filip Ilijevski, the no.4 seed (11-6, 7-11, 11-9, 14-16, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9), having in the penultimate round beaten Jeremy Hazin, the no.6 seed and also from Canada (11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 5-11, 11-7).

In the counterpart semi-final, Filip Ilijevski had overcome colleague Alexander Moran, the no.9 seed (11-9, 11-9, 11-2, 5-11, 11-4).

Zhang Yahao Causes Last Eight Upset but Eugene Wang Remains Firm for Hosts

Runner up in the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the 2010 Ecuador Junior and Cadet Open, when beaten by Chile’s Felipe Olivares; Zhang Yahao of the United States was the player to cause the one upset of note in the quarter-finals of the Men’s Singles event at the ITTF-North American Championships in Mississauga on Sunday 31st August.

He beat former champion Pierre-Luc Theriault of Canada (11-8, 10-12, 5-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7) to reserve his place in the semi-finals.

Defeat for Pierre-Luc Theriault but he was the only leading name not to survive the round of the last eight in the Men’s Singles event.....

Upsets Galore, No Junior Boys’ Singles Semi-Final Place for Top Three Names

Shocks abounded in the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the ITTF-North American Championships on Sunday 31st August; only one of the top four seeds advanced to the quarter-final stage and even that achievement produced a surprise.

Canada’s Filip Ilijevski, the no.4 seed, had finished in second place in his group; he was beaten by Jack Wang of the United States (11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-6) who remained unbeaten to top the group.

The result meant that Filip Ilijevski did not progress to the allotted place for the fourth seed in the main draw; instead he faced Kanak Jha of the United States, the top seed in the round of the last eight and duly produced a sensation.....

Eugene Wang Defends ITTF-North American Title in Mississauga

Winner of the Men’s Singles title one year ago, when the tournament was staged in Vancouver, the host nation’s Eugene Wang defends his title at the forthcoming 2014 ITTF-North American Championships to be held in Mississauga on Sunday 31st August and Monday 1st September.

He is one of three players on duty who have previously won the title; the others being likewise from Canada.

Pierre-Luc Theriault won in 2012 in Cary when the United States played host, Xavier Therien succeeded in 2009 in Laval.....

A Rejuvenated Zhang Mo, Canadian Leads the List in Mississauga

Winner of the Women’s Singles title at the ITTF-North America Cup in Burnaby earlier this year in June, followed by a similar success at the ensuing Canada Open; the year 2014 has very much seen a rejuvenation in the fortunes of Zhang Mo.

Not only did she enjoy success on home soil; in addition she enjoyed success on foreign soil.

At the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, she was very much the guiding hand as she shepherded Anqui Luo to a bronze medal finish in the Women’s Doubles event.....

Mississauaga, Home for ITTF North American Championships

Situated in the Canadian state of Ontario in the Greater Toronto area, Mississauga is the home for the forthcoming ITTF-North American Championships.

A two day tournament, with a total prize fund of US$ 7,500.00, proceedings start on Sunday 31st August and conclude on Monday 1st September.

The venue for the competition is the My Table Tennis Club with eight events being staged – Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Junior Boys’ Team, Junior Girls’ Team, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Junior Boys’ Singles, Junior Girls’ Singles.
