A First for Georgina Pota, for Vladimir Samsonov Yet Another, Champions in de Haan

Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus and Hungaryís Georgina Pota won the respective Menís Singles and Womenís Singles titles at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belgium Open in de Haan on Saturday 13th September.

Occupying the no.2 seeded position in the competition, Valadimir Samsonov accounted for surprise finalist, Swedenís Simon Arvidsson, the no.25 seed (8-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8) after Georgina Pota, the no.4 seed, had secured the Womenís Singles title at the final expense of Japanís Megumi Abe.

In a similar manner to Vladimir Samsonov, Georgina Pota won in four games (11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9).....

Amazing Run Continues, Simon Arvidsson Exceeds All Expectatons in de Haan

Swedenís Simon Arvidsson continued his quite amazing run in the Menís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belgium Open in de Haan on Saturday 13th September, the closing day in the four day tournament.

Against all expectations he reached the penultimate round, against all expectations he beat Italyís Niagol Stoyanov to reach the final; the no.25 seed, the rank outsider, he beat the in-form Italian, the no.9 seed in a thrilling seven games duel (11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6).

The success recorded in de Haan far outweighs any success that the 24 year old Swede, presently with no World ranking owing to a lack of international exposure has ever achieved in his career.

Megumi Abeand Georgina Pota Reach Womenís Singles Final

Successful in 2013 in the casino city of Las Vegas at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour United States Open, when against the odds she won the Womenís Singles title; once again on Saturday 13th September, Japanís Megumi Abe raised the eyebrows.

The no.10 seed, she accounted for Monacoís Yang Xiaoxin, the no.5 seed and the winner earlier this year in Croatia.

Impressively, Megumi Abe won in six games (8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5).

Successful in partnership with Viktor Brodd in the Menís Team event at the Finlandia Open in December 2012, Swedenís Simon Arvidsson was the player to cause the biggest upset at the quarter-final stage of the Menís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belgium Open in de Haan on Friday 12th September.

Against all expectations the 24 year old left hander accounted for Italyís Mihai Bobocica, the no.4 seed.

Impressive, Simon Arvidsson, the no.25 seed, recorded a five games success (11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7).....

Winner of the Womenís Singles title at the GAC Group 2013 United States Open in Las Vegas, Megumi Abe was the player to cause the biggest surprise at the quarter-final stage of the Womenís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belgium Open in de Haan on Friday 12th September.

In an all-Japanese confrontation, Megumi Abe, the no.10 seed, accounted for Yuka Ishigaki, the no.1 seed.

Furthermore, she won in a most impressive manner; she succeeded in four straight games (11-5, 14-12, 11-7, 11-9).

Third Round Sensation, Niagol Stoyanov Beats European Champion

Never in the top one hundred of the World rankings, Niagol Stoyanov caused a sensation in the third round of the Menís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belgium Open in de Haan on Friday 12th September.

The 27 year old, somewhat overshadowed by Mihai Bobocica and the rising star, Leandro Mutti in the Italian National Team, beat Germanyís Dimitrij Ovtcharov, the top seed and reigning European champion by the very narrowest of margins in a seven games thriller (11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4, 4-11, 11-9).

Niagol Stoyanov, the ninth seed, by emerging successful, books a place in the last eight of an ITTF World Tour Menís Singles event for only the second time in his career.

Friends Become Foes, End Results Third Womenís Singles Round Upsets

Colleagues but on the morning of Friday 12th September, they were adversaries; in the third round of the Womenís Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Belgium Open in de Haan, Misako Wakamiya faced Kyoka Kato whilst in a second all Japanese duel, Eka So opposed Misaki Morizono.

Both contests resulted in upsets.

Eka So, the no.12 seed, accounted for Misaki Morizono, the no.3 seed (11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7), before Kyoka Kato, the no.14 seed, caused an even bigger upset; she overcame Misako Wakamiya, the no.2 seed (6-11, 11-4, 7-11, 12-10, 11-3, 11-3).....
