The Most Followed World Championships in History; It’s Official

Staged from Monday 28th April to Monday 5th May, the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Championships were officially the most followed World Championships in history.

Across 22 television networks throughout the globe there were 475 combined hours of coverage, including an impressive 50 hours just on China Central Television (CCTV).

The 50 hours on CCTV were watched by a combined total of 188 million people and the women's final had an average viewership of 11.3 million, making it the second most watched sporting programme, not taking into account the Winter Olympics, in China in 2014.....

The ZEN-HOH 2014 World Team Championships, which concluded in the busy Japanese capital city of Tokyo on Monday 5th May, are now part of history.

Memories of the tournament will linger long, some will linger more strongly than others; most certainly for one group of young people it was an event they will never forget.

Stealing the Show, Ibrahim Hamadtou Featured on CTV National News Channel

China won the Men’s and Women’s events at the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Championships, proceedings concluding in the Japanese city of Tokyo on Monday 5th May.

The likes of Ma Long, Xu Xin, Zhang Jike, in particular thrilled the crowds with their expertise and athleticism as did Ding Ning, Li Xiaoxia and Liu Shiwen.

However, if there was one person who stole the show, it was 41 year old Ibrahim Hamadtou, the man who was true to his motto: nothing is impossible.....

Actions Speak Louder than Words, Smiles on Tsunami Affected Faces

On the concluding morning of play, Monday 5th May, at the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Championships in Tokyo; we were awoken to the tremors of an earthquake at 5.00am.

Some 16 people were reported injured and there were some minor disruptions to transport.

However, measured at level 6.00 on the Richter Scale, it did not compare with the earthquake of Friday 11th March 2011, measured at 9.00 and followed by a Tsunami that resulted in over 15,800 deaths plus in excess of 127,000 buildings being destroyed.....

They came in their thousands, more in hope than in expectation; they left with pride.

The massed ranks of supporters gave their all, as did their idols, but at the end of the day class told in the Yoyogi Gymnasium on the evening of Sunday 5th May.

China beat Japan by three matches to nil in the final of the Women’s Team Championship Division at the ZEN-NOH World Team Championships in Tokyo to retain the title regained in Dortmund two years earlier.....

Moscow and Dortmund Repeated, China Retains Swaythling Cup

Top seeds and title favourites, China won the Men’s Championship Division at the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Championships in Tokyo on Monday 5th May.

At the final hurdle the trio formed by Ma Long, Zhang Jike and Xu Xin overcame the German outfit of Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Franziska in what was a repeat of the last three years’ finals.

Ma Long beat Timo Boll (11-6, 11-9, 11-9), Dimitrij Ovtcharov levelled by overcoming Zhang Jike (13-11, 11-8, 11-6), before Xu Xin restored the lead by accounting for Patrick Franziska (11-5, 11-2, 11-9).

The Long Wait Over, the Yoyogi Gymnasium Home of Triumph

Selecting from the squad of Mika Hoshino, Emiko Kanda, Fumiko Shinpo and Tomoko Tamura; Japan reached the final of the Women’s Team event at the World Championships in 1983.

On Sunday 4th May at the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Championships, the 31 year wait to repeat the achievement came to a close. Kasumi Ishikawa, Yuka Ishigaki and Sayaka Hirano combined to beat the Hong Kong trio of Lee Ho Ching, Jiang Huajun and Ng Wing Nam to book their place in the final of the Women’s Championship Division.

Furthermore, they completed the triumph in the very same hall as their predecessors, players who excelled at World level before they were born.....
