Status Justified, Chen Meng Overcomes Li Xiaodan to Claim Swedish Crown

Two years earlier crowned World Junior champion in Bahrain, Chen Meng won the Women’s Singles title at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on the afternoon of Sunday 1st December to justify her exalted position in the draw.

The top seed, she accounted for colleague Li Xiaodan, the ninth seed, in an all-Chinese final, the champion elect seemingly able to press the accelerator when potential crisis loomed.

Incredible Run Ends, Silver for Fan Zhendong, Yan An Secures Swedish Crown

The runner up earlier in the year, when beaten in the final in Doha by colleague Ma Long in a contest that was decided by the minimal margin in the deciding seventh game, Yan An won the Men’s Singles title at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on the afternoon of Sunday 1st December.

Occupying the second seeded position in the draw he beat Chinese National Team colleague and third seed, Fan Zhendong, in six games to arrest the title (12-10, 13-11, 9-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6).

In so doing ended the incredible 17 match unbeaten run of his 16 year old colleague on this year’s ITTF World Tour. ....

Li Xiaodan and Mu Zi Display No Charity, Title Secured in Commanding Style

China’s Li Xiaodan and Mu Zi were in total harmony in Stockholm’s Eriksdalshallen on the afternoon of Sunday 1st December.

In a contest that involved two partnerships who had been required to compete in the preliminary stages of proceedings, they overcame the Chinese Taipei partnership formed by Hsui Hui-Tsun and Lee I-Chen to arrest the Women’s Doubles title at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open.

Li Xiaodan and Mu Zi won in three straight games in the most authoritative manner (11-4, 11-3, 11-4).....

Jens Lundqvist and Xu Xin Clinch Swedish Men’s Doubles Crown

The host nation’s Jens Lundqvist and China’s Xu Xin emerged as the winners of the Men’s Doubles title at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm on Sunday 1st December.

Occupying the fourth seeded place in the draw, they beat Pär Gerell and Yan An, the third seeds, to clinch gold, succeeding in four games (11-1, 10-12, 12-10, 11-9).

It was the second time in the history of the ITTF World Tour that pairs combining players from different national associations had played their colleagues in a Men’s Doubles final; the one previous occasion being earlier this year in the northern Chinese city of Changchun when China and Germany had joined forces.....

Super League Decision Reversed, Final Places for Chen Meng and Li Xiaodan

Chen Meng recovered; Li Xiaodan never released the grip but both emerged with one factor in common; they succeeded in their semi-final encounters in the Women’s Singles event at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour on Sunday 1st December in Stockholm’s Eriksdalshallen.

In an all-Chinese duel Chen Meng, the no.1 seed, recovered from a three games to one deficit to beat the non-seeded Mu Zi (11-13, 7-11, 14-12, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-3), before Li Xiaodan, the no.9 seed, overcame Turkey’s Hu Melek, the no.5 seed, in a rather more comfortable manner.

She won in four straight games (11-5, 11-9, 11-6, 11-9).....

Top Seed Falls, Fan Zhendong and Yan An Reach Stockholm Final

China’s Fan Zhendong and Yan An booked their places in the final of the Men’s Singles event at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open in Stockholm following success in the Eriksdalshallen on the morning of Sunday 1st December.

Fan Zhendong, the third seed, continued his amazing run of current form by beat top seed and colleague, Xu Xin, by the very narrowest of margins in the decisive seventh game (9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9).

Soon after, he was joined by Yan An, the second seed; Yan An ended the adventures of Panagiotis Gionis of Greece, the no.11 seed in a rather more comfortable manner.

He won in four straight games (11-4, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5).....

A Welcome Second for Austria, an Unwanted Second for France

The winner earlier in the year in Zagreb, Austria’s Sofia Polcanova collected her second career Under 21 Women’s Singles on the ITTF World Tour, when she emerged successful in Stockholm on the evening of Saturday 30th November.

In the Eriksdalshallen at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open, the second seed, she secured the top prize by overcoming Britt Eerland of the Netherlands, the third seed, in six games (11-7, 5-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5).

A second win for Sofia Polcanova and it was to be a second for Quentin Robinot of France but not a second he desired. ....
