Follows in Footseps of Jeong Sangeun, Jang Woojin Crowned in Rabat

Six years earlier at the World Junior Championships staged in the American city of Palo Alto in 2007, Jeong Sangeun had stood on table when beating China’s Xu Ruifeng to secure the Boys’ Singles title at the World Junior Championships.

Now six years later, Jang Woojin did exactly the same as he became the second Korean to be crowned World Junior Boys’ Singles champion.

At the final hurdle in the Moroccan city of Rabat on the evening of Sunday 8th December, he beat China’s Zhou Kai (11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 16-14, 11-4) to arrest the prestigious title.....

At the Fifth Attempt the Title Gained and the Title Retained

Present in the northern Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias in 2009, when crowned Girls’ Doubles champion with Chinese National Team compatriot, Chen Meng but runner up in the Girls’ Singles event when later beaten by Wu Yang, also from China; at the fifth time of asking Gu Yuting is the World Junior Girls’ Singles Champion.

On Sunday 8th December at the World Junior Championships in the Moroccan city of Rabat, she beat compatriot Liu Gaoyang in a dramatic full distance Girls’ Singles final.

Gu Yuting won in seven games (11-9, 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 3-11, 11-9, 11-8) to secure the title, after earlier in the afternoon having clinched the Girls’ Doubles crown in partnership with Liu Xi. ....

Defeat and Victory for Kong Lingxuan, Jang Woojin and Zhou Kai Reach Final

Korea’s Jang Woojin and China’s Zhou Kai were the players to emerge successful at the semi-final stage of the Boys’ Singles event at the 2013 ITTF World Junior Championships in the Moroccan city of Rabat on the morning of Sunday 8th December.

Jang Woojin, the no.10 seed, recovered from a two games to nil deficit to beat China’s Kong Lingxuan, who had been required to negotiate the qualification stage of proceedings (6-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5, 11-8), before his compatriot Zhou Kai, the no.16 seed halted Japanese hopes.

Experience Counts, Top Seeds Rea

Gu Yuting and Liu Gaoyang, the respective top two seeds in the Girls’ Singles event at the 2013 ITTF World Junior Championships in the Moroccan city of Rabat, booked their places in the final, following success in the penultimate round of proceedings on the morning of Sunday 8th December.

Both left handed, both overcame right handed adversaries in a brace of all-Chinese duel.

Determined, in her last year in the age group, Gu Yuting accounted for Liu Xi in five games (11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8), before in six games, Liu Gaoyang ended the title dreams of Wang Manyu (11-8, 11-8, 6-11, 8-11, 11-8, 12-10).

Jang Woojin Maintains Form, Korean Ousts Top Seed

Not the best of fortunes earlier in the week in the Boys’ Team event; Korea’s Jang Woojin was the player on fire on the penultimate day of play, Saturday 7th December, at the 2013 ITTF World Junior Championships in Rabat, Morocco.

In the Boys’ Singles event, having caused an upset in the third round of proceedings by ousting China’s Liang Jingkun, the no.5 seed (11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 5-11, 10-12, 12-10), he secured an arguably bigger scalp one round later at the quarter-final stage.

He beat Japan’s Yuto Muramatsu, the no.1 seed (10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5).....

Four Out of Four in Santiago, A Decade Later the Very Same

A decade ago at the first ever World Junior Championships in the Chilean capital city of Santiago, China provided all four semi-finalists in the Girls’ Singles event; their names were Cao Zhen, Li Qian, Peng Luyang and a certain young lady who later did rather well, Li Xiaoxia.

Now at the 2013 ITTF World Junior Championships, it is the same situation; the dynasty continues.

In the Moroccan city of Rabat, the names of the four Girls’ Singles semi-finalists are Gu Yuting, Liu Gaoyang, Liu Xi and Wang Manyu.....

Wang Manyu Upsets Seeding but Centre Stage Belongs to Korea

Major upsets in the third round of the Boys’ Singles event, in the counterpart stage of the Junior Girls’ competition, a result to note; that was the outcome on the early afternoon of Saturday 7th December at the 2013 ITTF World Junior Championships in the Moroccan city of Rabat.

The one young lady who attracted the eye was 14 year old Wang Manyu; the no.19 seed, she accounted for Ariel Hsing of the United States, the no.5 seed, in six games (11-3, 7-11, 11-8, 12-10, 7-11, 11-4).

However, centre stage belonged to Korea, centre staged belonged to 18 year old Jang Woojin; the no.10 seed with Italy’s Leonardo Mutti, the no.13 seed, waiting in the wings.....
