Youngest Ever Winner, Fan Zhendong Gives Polished Performance

Crowned World Junior champion in the Indian city of Hyderabad in December 2012, Fan Zhendong won the Menís Singles title at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Polish Open in Spala on Sunday 10th November and thus secured the first such title of his young career.

Never previously beyond the quarter-final stage on the ITTF World Tour, he reached the last eight earlier in the year in Changchun; occupying the no.2 seeded position in the draw, he accounted for Chinese National Team compatriot, Zhou Yu, the no.16 seed, in the final.

Fan Zhendong won in six games (17-15, 11-8, 7-11, 11-2, 10-12, 11-6).....

Seo Hyowon Lays Claim to Place in One Million Dollar Finals

Koreaís Seo Hyowon won the Womenís Singles title at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Polish Open in Spala on Sunday 10th November and thus enhanced her chances greatly of an invitation to the US$ 1,000,000 Grand Finals, to be staged in Dubai in January 2014.

The winner on home soil earlier in the year, when she struck gold at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Korean Open in Incheon; in Spala she accounted for Chinaís Sheng Dandan at the final hurdle.

Occupying the no.2 seeded position in the draw; she posted a six games win (6-11, 13-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5) against a player who had excelled all expectations to reach the final. ....

Double Doubles Success for Korea, New Pairings on ITTF World Tour Roll of Honour

Success came the way of Korea on the early afternoon of Sunday 10th November at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Polish Open in Spala; the Asian country captured both doubles titles.

Jung Youngsik and Lee Sangsu combined to secure success in the Menís Doubles final after Jeon Jihee and Park Seonghye had emerged victorious in the counterpart Womenís Doubles gold medal contest.

In a duel between two non-seeded pairings, Jung Youngsik and Lee Sangsu beat Japanese teenagers Masataka Morizono and Kohei Sambe in three straight games (11-7, 11-6, 11-5); thus emulating the feat of Jeon Jihee and Park Seonghye.....

One generation approaches its latter years; another is ready to step into illustrious shoes, there is no period of transition, the excuse used by football managers for a series of defeats.

In China, there are always young players eager to follow in the footsteps of those whose faces appears on billboards advertising renowned products; players who even though not established in the national team can compete on even terms with players from other prominent international national associations.

The fact was illustrated clearly at the semi-final stage of the Menís Singles event at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Polish Open in Spala on Sunday 10th November; Zhou Yu, 21 years old and Fan Zhendong, only 16 years of age, emerged successful in a most authoritative styles.....

Required to negotiate the qualification stages of proceedings, Sheng Dandan continued her outstanding form to beat Japanís Ai Fukuhara, the top seed, in the penultimate round of the Womenís Singles event,

The 21 year old recovered from a two games to nil deficit to beat Ai Fukuhara (7-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5) to book a place in an ITTF World Tour Womenís Singles final for the first time in her career.....

Silver medallist on the ITTF Junior Circuit in Sweden and Thailand in 2012, Singaporeís Lin Ye emerged as the surprise winner of the Under 21 Womenís Singles event at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Polish Open in Spala, on the evening of Saturday 9th November.

Occupying the no.8 seeded position in the draw, she upset the pecking order by beating Germanyís Petrissa Solja, the no.4 seed in a hard fought full distance semi-final duel (13-11, 5-11, 5-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8), before clinching the title at the final expense of Japanís Mima Ito, the no.7 seed in similarly tense duel.

Top Two Seeds Progress in Style but Again Zhou Yu Captures Limelight

Chinese Taipeiís Chuang Chih-Yuan and Chinaís Fan Zhendong, the respective top two seeds in the Menís Singles event at the GAC Group 2013 ITTF World Tour Polish Open in Spala, duly booked their places in the penultimate round, following quarter-final successes on the evening of Saturday 9th November.

Both ended Japanese hopes, both emerging successful in a similar fashion; a first game reverse followed by a run of four games without blemish to secure victory.

Chuang Chih-Yuan beat Kaii Yoshida, the no.24 seed (9-11, 11-3, 2-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6); whilst Fan Zhendong ended the hopes of German qualifier, Ruwen Filus (11-13, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7).....
