Yang Heng-Wei Repeats Egyptian Success, Two Steps Higher for Seira Ushijima

Chinese Taipei’s Yang Heng-Wei and Japan’s Seira Ushijima won the respective Junior Boys’ Singles and Junior Girls’ Singles titles at the Double Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in North Vancouver on Sunday 1st September 2013.

Occupying the no.3 seeded position in the draw, Yang Heng-Wei accounted for compatriot Wang Tai-Wei, the no.4 seed, in the final (8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9), having at the semi-final stage defeated Hong Kong’s Hung Ka Tak, the no.2 seed (11-9, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6) and in the round of the last eight ended the aspirations of Puerto Rico’s Brian Afanador (10-12, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8).....

Leading Names Book Second Round Places but Two Choose Different Route

The top eight seeds in the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Double Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in North Vancouver all booked second round places on Saturday 31st August 2013.

Ariel Hsing of the United States and Romania’s Bernadette Szocs, the respective top four seeds, in addition to the fifth and sixth seeded Japanese duo of Yurika Taira and Seira Ushijima, all finished in first places in their respective groups, as did the next two in the order of merit, Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Ssu-Hua and Huang Yu-Wen.

Following their commanding performances in the group stage of affairs, none was required to compete in the opening round.....

Top Three Names Reach Quarter-Finals but Next Five on List Suffer Defeats

The top three seeds in the Cadet Boys’ Singles event at the Double Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in North Vancouver all booked quarter-final places, following success on Saturday 31st August 2013.

However, of the top eight names on duty, they were the only players to progress to the last eight.

It was a successful penultimate day for Hong Kong’s Hung Ka Tak alongside the United States duo of Kanal Chodri and Kanak Jha. Alas, it was not to be for Singapore’s Ethan Poh Shao Feng, Tay Ming Han Maxxe and Darren Loy Meng Hean, the respective fourth, sixth and seventh seeds. ....

American Teenagers Cause Sensation but No Stopping Chinese Taipei Combination

Second seeds, the Chinese Taipei combination of Sung Chia-Hung and Yang Heng-Wei, ruled the roost at the Double Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open on Friday 30th August 2013.

Having recorded a brace of three-nil wins in their first stage encounters, they maintained their form to secure the title, continuing in the same fashion as on day one.

At the semi-final stage they posted a three matches to nil success against the Canada `A’ Team, third seeded partnership of Chen Hongtao and James Pintea; before recording the same margin of victory in the final.....

Gold and Silver, Singapore and the United States Dominate Cadet Events

Singapore and the United States dominated matters in the Cadet events at the Double Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in North Vancouver on Friday 30th August 2013.

Gold and silver was the end result for both visitors; Singapore provided the finalists in the Cadet Boys’ Team event, in the counterpart Cadet Girls’ Team competition it was the same scenario with respect to the United States.

Furthermore, the titles were secured in an impressive manner; neither winning team was ever stretched to the full five match distance.....

Lee Yu-Peng the Player to Raise Eyebrows on Opening Day in North Vancouver

A quarter-finalist in the Junior Girls’ Singles event on the ITTF Junior Circuit in New Caledonia, Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yu-Peng was the player to attract the attention at the Doubles Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in North Vancouver on Thursday 29th August 2013.

She caused the biggest upset and contributed to the biggest upset on the opening day of play.

The 14 year old beat both Charlotte Carey of Wales 13-11, 8-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8) and Romania’s Bernadette Szocs (11-7, 4-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-5) to mastermind the downfall of the second seeds, both players, who during their careers have won ITTF Junior Circuit Girls’ Singles titles.....

The leading three outfits in the Cadet Boys’ Team event completed the opening day of play, Thursday 29th August 2013, in the Double Fish Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in first places in the respective groups.

However, in the counterpart Cadet Girls’ Team competition that was not to be the scenario; the host nation hit trouble.

The United States `A’ Team, the top seeds, selecting from Angela Guan, Lucy Ma and Grace Yang duly finished in first place in their group without surrendering a single individual match.....
