A Problem of Prize Money, Cheques No Player Wanted to Accept

Not unusual, Chinese players featured in all four Menís Doubles semi-finals at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korean Open in Incheon but in the tournament that concluded on Sunday 7th April, there was a different look to the partnerships.

Zhang Jike partnered Koreaís Seo Hyundeok to success, a combination that was to be seen in all four penultimate round partnerships, with a Chinese player joining forces with a colleague from foreign shores.

At the semi-final stage Zhang Jike and Seo Hyundeok beat the pairing formed by Xu Ain and Franceís Adrian Mattenet (14-12, 11-5, 7-11, 6-11, 11-7), before clinching the title at the expense of Ma Long, who was paired with Koreaís Lee Jungwoo (11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8).....

Beaten in the final one year ago, Xu Xin climbed one step higher on Sunday 7th April 2013 to win the Menís Singles title at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korea Open in Incheon.

In 2012 he had suffered defeat by the very narrowest of margins in the decisive seventh game, losing to colleague Zhang Jike (8-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10); one year later, occupying the no.2 seeded position in the draw, he accounted for top seed, Ma Long, to arrest the title.

Xu Xin prevailed in an all Chinese final in six games (11-3, 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 12-10).....

Seo Hyonwon Turns Tables, Reverses Week Earlier Fortunes to Clinch Korean Crown

Never previously in a final of an international tournament, the host nationís Seo Hyowon was both the surprise and popular winner of the Womenís Singles title at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korea Open in Incheon on Sunday 7th April 2013.

The no.12 seed, the 25 year old year beat Japanís Kasumi Iahikawa, the no.3 seed, in a dramatic seven games duel (11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 9-11, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9) to bring her adoring supporters to their feet in adulation.

A surprise win in terms of seeding, it was an even greater surprise when the events of just over one week earlier were taken in to consideration.

Singles Sadness but Seo Hyundeok and Zhang Jike Combine for Doubles Success

Surprise defeats in the Menís Singles event but in the Menís Doubles it was success; the host nationís Seo Hyundeok and Chinaís Zhang Jike joined forces to strike gold at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korea Open in Incheon on the afternoon of Sunday 7th April 2013.

Earlier in the proceeding Seo Hyundeok had suffered a shock first round defeat in the Menís Singles event at the hands of Japanese teenager, Masataka Morizono; two rounds later Zhang Jike had departed, beaten by colleague Yan An.

However, together it was better news.

Together in Guangzhou, Korean Partnership Very Much Together on Home Soil

Park Youngsook and Yang Haeun, both players who had been on duty the previous week in Guangzhou at the Times Property World Team Classic, won the Womenís Doubles title at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korea Open in Incheon on the afternoon of Sunday 7th April 2013.

In an all Korean final, they accounted for Jeon Jihee and Lee Eunhee in four games (11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8) to arrest the title.

It was the first time the duo had won a Womenís Doubles title as a partnership on the ITTF World Tour but it was not the first time Park Youngsook had clinched the top prize.....

Top Seeds Assert Authority, Wang Hao and Yan An Depart in Penultimate Round

Ma Long and Xu Xin, the respective top two seeds, prevailed in the all Chinese semi-finals in the Menís Singles event at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korea Open in Incheon on Sunday 7th April 2013.

Xu Xin ended the adventures of Yan An, the no.9 seed, in an abrupt manner, recording a straight games win (11-8, 14-12, 11-3, 11-9); after, in a rather more exacting encounter, Ma Long had overcome Wang Hao, the no.4 seed (11-3, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 12-10).

Both victories were as status predicted and both as recent history advised.....

End of Road for Lee Ho Ching and Hiroko Fujii, Status Reigns in Korea

Status prevailed in Incheon in the semi-finals of the Womenís Singles event at the ITTF World Tour Korean Air Korean Open on Sunday 7th April 2013.

The host nationís Seo Hyowon, the no.12 seed, accounted for Hong Kongís Lee Ho Ching, the no.25 seed; whilst Kasumi Ishikawa, the no.3 seed, won the all Japanese clash, overcoming Hiroko Fujii, the no.26 seed.

However, both were hard fought victories.

Seo Hyowon needed six games to overcome 20 year old Lee Ho Ching (7-11, 11-5, 13-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8), as did Kasumi Ishikawa, who had to recover from losing the first two games to end the aspirations of Hiroko Fujii (9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-2, 11-9).....
