Guatemala Experience Ends on Cultural Note, Visit to World Heritage Centre

Play at the ITTF Global Junior Circuit Finals concluded in Guatemala City on Sunday 27th January 2013.

However, it was not the end of proceedings for the visitors to the Central American country, for the tournament that brought the 2012 itinerary to a close.

Only eight months to prepare, after accepting the challenge of organising the prestigious competition, Jorge Herrera, the President of the Guatemala Table Tennis Federation, arranged a visit to Antigua, on the day after the heat of competition had concluded.....

Zhou Yihan Builds Firm Platform Before Shinkansen Arrives in Guatemala City

Close matches had been the order of the day as players fought to secure places in the gold medal contests at the ITTF Global Junior Circuits in the Central American country of Guatemala.

However, in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles finals, on the afternoon of Sunday 27th January 2013, that was not to be the situation; in the space of less than one hour, both champions were known; their names were Zhou Yihan and Masataka Morizono.

Zhou Yihan succeeded in the all-Singaporean final beating Isabelle Siyun Li in four straight games (11-4, 11-4, 11-4, 11-4), before Masataka Morizono followed to suit to overcome Portugal’s João Gerlado in five games (11-4, 8-11, 11-1, 11-1,11-3).

Portuguese Teenager Maintains Incredible Run, João Geraldo Books Final Place

Not on the original invitation list, Portugal’s João Geraldo continued his outstanding run of form, in the early afternoon of Sunday 27th January, to book his place in the Boys’ Singles gold medal contest at the ITTF Junior Circuit Finals in Guatemala.

A replacement for Hong Kong’s Chiu Chung Hei, the 17 year old, who excelled on the opening two days of play by causing a series of upsets, continued in the same vein on the concluding day of action.

At the semi-final stage of proceedings, he beat Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia-Sheng, the top seed, in six games to fly the flag for Portugal, the Iberian Peninsula and the whole Europe.

The Girls’ Singles title at the ITTF Junior Circuit Finals in Guatemala is en route to Singapore.

In fine form Zhou Yihan and Isabelle Siyun Li both emerged successful at the semi-final stage of proceedings on the morning of Sunday 27th January 2013.

Zhou Yihan set the tone by overcoming Egypt’s Dina Meshref in five games (11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 12-10,) before the defensive skills of Isabelle Siyun Li eventually wore down Hong Kong’s Li Ching Wan in six games (8-11, 11-8, 14-12, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2) to complete a brace of wins for the south east Asian city state.....

Let me entertain you, Robbie Williams himself could not have provided better entertainment than the fare that was on offer in the quarter-finals of the Boys’ Singles event, at the ITTF Global Junior Circuit Finals in Guatemala City, on the evening of Saturday 26th January 2013.

Eight talented young men, full of energy, fought tooth and nail for places in the semi-finals of the prestigious event.

It was not only a pleasure to witness the athletic way in which they played, it was also a privilege to behold the way all conducted themselves, whether in victory or defeat.

In the Domo Polideportivo, eight young men of varying statures stood tall; so did table tennis.....

Crowned Junior Boys’ Singles champion in Korea and Hungary, Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia-Sheng, the top seed in the Boys’ Singles event at the ITTF Global Junior Circuit Finals in Guatemala, duly booked his place in the semi-finals but only just.

He saved three match points in the sixth game of his duel against the steadfast Korean defender, Kang Minho, on the evening of Saturday 26th January, before eventually emerging successful

Lee Chia-Sheng won in seven games (7-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 16-14, 11-6) to keep his dream alive.....

Keep cool under pressure, remain focused and the chances of success are increased; there is no player on duty at the ITTF 2013 ITTF Junior Circuit Finals in Guatemala who exemplifies those facets more than Hong Kong’s Li Ching Wan.

If she does not progress to become a senior table tennis player of note then I suggests she plays poker!

There is no a hint of emotion; watching her play you have no idea whether she’s won the point, lost the point or Santa Claus has arrived with ten million dollar cheque!
