Surprise Winner in Serbia, Sadi Ismailov Upsets Seeding to Clinch Gold

Russia’s Sadi Ismailov, the no.11 seed, was the surprise winner of the Junior Boys’ Singles title at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja on Sunday 7th October 2012.

The 15 year old overcame compatriot Kirill Shvetc at the quarter-final stage of proceedings in five games (11-9, 11-6, 13-11, 11-13, 11-9), before securing the title by keeping his nerve in two full distance tension packed seven games contests.

Both duels were thrilling contests, on the proverbial knife-edge being determined by the minimal two point margin in the deciding game. The title was most certainly hard earned.....

Third Career Title, Sofia Polcanova Strikes Gold in Vrnjacka Banja

The runner up earlier in the year in Poland, when beaten at the final hurdle by Romania’s Bernadette Szocs, Austria’s Sofia Polcanova went on step better at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja on Sunday 7th October 2012.

She won the Junior Girls’ Singles event, to collect her third such career title on the ITTF Junior Circuit; in 2009 she had succeeded in Funchal, two years later in the Spanish resort of Platja d’Aro.

Seeded no.1 in Vrnjacka Banja, she accounted for Russia’s Daria Chernova, the no.6 seed, in the quarter-finals (13-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-5) in her opening contest of the day to set her on the golden road.....

When is A Shock Not A Shock, When the Second Seed Falls in Round Two

Second place in his group in the first phase of proceedings, meant that Hungary’s Marton Szita did not occupy the top place in the draw when the second phase, the single elimination stage, began on Saturday 6th October 2012 at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja.

Instead, after overcoming VadimYarashenka of Belarus in the opening round (11-3, 11-9, 5-11, 11-1, 11-6), he faced the Slovak Republic’s Roman Rezetka, the no.2 seed, in the second round.

A tough draw to say the least; well it proved to be a tough draw for Roman Rezetka; he was beaten by the back to form Hungarian. Marton Szita won in five games (11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 12-10).....

Svetlana Mokhnacheva and Maryia Kuchuk Upset Seeding in Vrnjacka Banja

Quarter-final places for six of the eight highest seeded players in the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja, following the opening two rounds of proceedings on Saturday 6th October 2012 but for two notable names there is no seat at the table.

Romania’s Bernadett Balint, who had remained unbeaten throughout the Junior Girls’ Team event and Anna Rossikhina, a member of the successful title winning Russian outfit, both suffered surprise second round defeats.

Svetlana Mokhnacheva and Maryia Kuchuk upset the seeding. ....

Defeat for Top Seed but Door Not Closed for Marton Szita in Vrnjacka Banja

Hungary’s Marton Szita and Romania’s Alin Spelbus were the notable names to experience problems, as matters commenced in the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja on Friday 5th October 2012.

Both suffered unexpected defeats but had the consolation of concluding the group stage of proceedings in second place in their respective groups; thus they qualified places in the main draw.

In all singles event, the players concluding the opening phase of proceedings in first and second places in their respective groups progress to the main draw.....

Leading Junior Girls Progress with Ease but Cadets Stumble in Opening Stage

The leading names in the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Serbia Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja, all emerged successful on the third day of play, Friday 5th October 2012.

All remained unbeaten thus all finished in first place in their respective groups; none needed a deciding fifth game to determine the end result,

Austria’s Sofia Polcanova, Romania’s Bernadett Balint, Serbia’s Aneta Maksuti and Alina Arlouskaya of Belarus; the respective top four seeds, all enjoyed a trouble free day.

Titles for Hungary and France at Serbian Junior and Cadet Open

Hungary represented by Nandor Ecseki, Marton Szita and Adam Szudi justified their top seeded position, to win the Junior Boys’ Team title at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open in Vrnjacka Banja on Thursday 4th October 2012, overcoming the Romanian outfit of Daniel Dan, Adrian Costea and Alin Spellbus in the final.

Success for the top seeds in the Junior Boys’ Team competition but that was not the scenario in the Cadet Boys’ Team event, where the second seeds emerged successful.

France with Nolan Givone and Lucas Rigault in action overcame the top seeds, the Werner Schlager Academy Hot Spot Team.....
