The dust has now settled; the champions have departed.

There has been time for reflection.

Brazilís Thiago Monteiro and Caroline Kumahara left Costa Rica on Sunday 27th May 2012 as the respective Menís and Womenís Singles champions at the ITTF-Latin American Cup.

It was for the duo a most successful journey north.

They set a final example to all in San Josť but if anyone, any organisation set an example, there was one that shone brightly above the rest: the Costa Rica Table Tennis Federation.....

Plagued by injury for over a year, Brazilís Thiago Monteiro signalled the fact that he is now back to full fitness, by winning the Menís Singles title at the ITTF-Latin American Cup in San Josť, Costa Rica on Sunday 27th May 2012.

At the final hurdle, Thiago Monteiro, who hails from Fortaleza in the very north of Brazil, geographically not that far distant from the Central American country of Costa Rica, overcame Argentinaís Liu Song at the final hurdle.

Thiago Monteiro ever more confident as the tournament progressed posted a five games win over his veteran rival to secure victory (11-9, 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 13-11).....

A New Era for Latin America, Teenagers Contest Costa Rica Final

Brazilís Caroline Kumahara was the surprise winner of the Womenís Singles event at the ITTF-Latin American Cup in San Josť, Costa Rica on Sunday 27th May 2012.

In an all teenage final, both players still in the junior age group category, she beat Puerto Ricoís Carelyn Cordero in six games at the final hurdle to clinch the top prize.

The no.4 seed, Caroline Kumahara, 16 years old lost the first game in the final, before recovering to beat the un-seeded 18 years old Carelyn Cordero to secure gold. In the battle of the similar sounding first names it was sweet success for Caroline Kumahara. She won 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7.....

Gaston Alto Maintains Form, Hugo Hoyama Next to Fall in San Josť

Bronze medallist in the Menís Singles event at the Latin American Championships in 2009 and in 2011, Argentinaís Gaston Alto booked his place in the penultimate round at the ITTF-Latin American Cup by beating the man who has the greatest record of all in Latin American Championships.

No-one can match some 50 or so medals won by Brazilís 43 year old Hugo Hoyama; a record that will stand the test of time.

However, in San Josť, Costa Rica, there will be no medals for the man from Sao Paulo; on the evening of Saturday 27th May 2012, he was beaten at the quarter-final stage of the ITTF-Latin American Cup by the in-form Argentine.

Carelyn Cordero Escapes from Precipice to Record Sensational Last Eight Win

Winner of the Junior Girlsí Singles title in the ITTF Junior Circuit at the Malta Junior and Cadet Open earlier in the year in April, Puerto Ricoís 18 year old Carelyn Cordero was the player to cause the biggest upset in the quarter-finals of the Womenís Singles event at the ITTF-Latin American Cup in San Josť, Costa Rica on the evening of Saturday 26th May 2012.

Trailing by three games to one and down 9-10 in the fifth against the no.1 seed, Brazilís Ligia Silva, she saved the match point; eventually won the game, before gaining in confidence to secure a quite sensational seven games victory.

Carelyn Cordero won 8-11, 4-11, 11-4, 7-11, 13-11, 11-8, 11-8.

Latin American Champion Exits in First Stage, Dexter St Louis Seals Fate

The reigning Latin American champion and with a place booked in the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Games, Lin Ju is out of the Menís Singles event at the prestigious ITTF-Latin American Cup in San Josť, Costa Rica.

On games ratio, the 32 year old from the Dominican Republic, finished in third place in his group and thus has not proceeded to the second stage of the competition.

On the second day of play, Friday 26th May 2012, Trinidad and Tobagoís Dexter St Louis upset the world order by beating Argentinaís Gaston Alto in the final group match in six games (11-7, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9) to seal Lin Juís fate.....

Disappointment in Doha, delight in San Josť; that was the scenario for Argentinaís 26 year old Gaston Alto.

At the recent Final World Olympic Qualification Tournament in the desert heat of Qatar, he beat the host nationís German Shemet but suffered defeats at the hand of Spainís Carlos Machado, Italyís Leonardo Mutti and Ukraineís Kou Lei.

Olympic dreams lay in ruins.

Two weeks later in Costa Rica at the ITTF-Latin American Cup on Friday 25th May, he caused the sensation of the opening dayís action. He rose to unprecedented heights.....
