Comprehensively beaten by Vladimir Samsonov in Almeria seven days earlier and not having enjoyed the best of fortunes on the international scene this year, Singapore’s Gao Ning returned to form in Santiago on Sunday 29th April.
Not only did he return to form, the 29 year old who will be on duty for Singapore at the London Olympic Games, returned to form in a most impressive manner.

Runners up one week earlier in Spain, Singapore’s Yang Zi and Zhan Jian went one step better in Santiago.
On Sunday 29th April, they won the Men’s Doubles title at the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Chile Open, beating Korea’s Kim Dong Hyun and Li Jung Woo at the final hurdle.
The previous week, the top seeds as in Santiago, they had been beaten in the final by the Japanese duo of Kenji Matsudaira and Jun Mizutani.

Seeding prevailed at the semi-final stage of the Men’s Singles event at the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Chile Open on Sunday 29th April 2012, as Japan’s Kazuhiro Chan and Singapore’s Gao Ning booked places in the final.
Kazuhiro Chan, the no.8 seed, who one round earlier had sensationally beaten compatriot and top seed Jun Mizutani, ended the hopes of Brazil’s Cazuo Matsumoto, the no.14 seed, before Singapore’s Gao Ning, the no.2 seed followed suit.

Surprisingly beaten in the second round of the Women’s Singles event one day earlier, at the GAC Group 2012 ITTF World Tour Chile Open in Santiago by Zheng Jiaqi from the United States, Japan’s Kasumi Ishikawa resigned the defeat to history and returned to form on Saturday 28th April.
She won the Under 21 Women’s Singles event to add to her ever growing collection of titles.
