A staggering run of 224 days without defeat in international competition concluded in Velenje on Sunday 29th January 2012.
Ma Long was beaten in the final of the Men’s Singles event at the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Slovenian Open by his Chinese National Team compatriot Zhang Jike.
In a contest between the top two players on the current Men’s World Rankings and therefore the top two seeded players in Velenje, it was the second listed player who prevailed.

Ding Ning Reverses London Decision to Capture Velenje Crown |

Beaten by Liu Shiwen in the final of the Women’s Singles event at the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals in London’s Excel Arena in late November 2011, Ding Ning gained revenge in Velenje’s Red Hall on the afternoon of Sunday 29th January 2012.
In the second tournament of the year on the GAC GROUP World Tour, the Slovenian Open, Ding Ning beat her Chinese National Team colleague at the final hurdle of the Women’s Singles event, to secure her first international title of the year.

Listed in the top two places on the Men’s World Rankings, Ma Long and Zhang Jike underlined the fact that are an equally potent when paired together.
Seeded no.1, they accounted for the pair next in the pecking order, colleagues Wang Hao and Xu Xin, to win the Men’s Doubles title at the GASC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Slovenian Open in Velenje on Sunday 29th January.

Top seed Ding Ning alongside fourth seed, Liu Shiwen, emerged victorious at the semi-final stage of the Women’s Singles event at the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Slovenian Open in Velenje on Sunday 29th January.
In all Chinese affairs Ding Ning accounted for third seeded Guo Yan. Soon after, Liu Shiwen ended the hopes of eighth seeded, Wu Yang, the defending champion.

The nightmares of the latter months of 2011 were laid to rest.
Conversely all good things came to an end.
Simply those were the scenarios at the quarter-finals stage of the Men’s Singles event at the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Slovenian Open in Velenje, on Saturday 28th January 2012.
China’s Ma Lin, who in August 2008 had been crowned Olympic champion, had suffered a torrid time on the ITTF Pro Tour in the latter months of 2011; in Velenje memories of the greatest day.... |
