Liu Song and Zhang Mo Make Reservations for London Olympic Games

Argentinaís Liu Song and Canadaís Zhang Mo won the respective Menís and Womenís Singles titles at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara on Thursday 20th October 2011, to bring six days of competition, in a supercharged Mexican atmosphere, to a close.

Not only did they finish the tournament standing on the highest step of the medal podium, they secured a second prize.

Subject to confirmation by their respective National Olympic Committees, both have qualified to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The winners of the Menís and Womenís Singles events at the Pan American Games gain a place in the Olympic Games; for the runners up, they must compete in the continental or ultimately world qualifying events to reserve their places in London.....

Brazil Suffers Agonies as Cuban Duo Hits Form at Pan American Games

Cuba hit form in the second round of the Menís Singles event at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara on Wednesday 19th October 2011 and they hit form at the expense of Brazil.

Jorge Campos, 20 years old, was the young man to cause the biggest upset; he beat Gustavo Tsuboi, the no.3 seed, the player who had steered Brazil to victory in the Menís Team event earlier in the tournament.

The Cuban recovered from a three games to one deficit to post a quite sensational victory in seven games. ....

Maria Paulina Vega Upsets Seeding to Book Last Eight Place in Guadalajara

Silver medallist at the Latin American Championships in Santo Domingo in 2002, when beaten in the final by compatriot, Berta Rodriguez; Chileís 27 year old Maria Paulina Vega was the player to upset the seeding, as matters commenced in the main draw of the Womenís Singles event, at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara on Wednesday 19th October 2011.

Seeded no.10, she beat the powerful Colombian, Paula Medina, the no.6 seed, to book her place in the quarter-finals.

Left handed, using her controlled topspin play to good effect, Maria Paulina Vega recorded a most impressive win.....

The New Generation Upsets Seeding in Early Stages at Pan American Games

Ecuadorís 21 year old Alberto MiŮo, closely followed by the Dominican Republicís Juan Vila, a player of the same age, and Canadaís 17 year old Pierre-Luc Theriault, were the young men to upset the seeding, as play commenced in the Menís Singles event at the Pan American Games in the Mexican city of Guadalajara on Tuesday 18th October 2011.

Alberto MiŮo, accounted for Timothy Wang of the United States in his opening encounter (13-11, 11-8, 11-8, 6-11, 12-10), to make a promising start.

However, it was in his next match that he excelled; he overcame Canadaís Pradeeban Peter-Paul, the no.6 seed.....

The leading names all completed the initial stage of proceedings in first place in their respective groups, in the Womenís Singles event at the Pan American Games in the Mexican city of Guadalajara on Tuesday 18th October 2011.

There were no major alarms for the top four seeds; the Dominican Republicís Wu Xue, the United States duo of Lily Zhang and Ariel Hsing plus Canadaís Zhang Mo, all concluded their first phase matches, without being extended the full seven games distance on any occasion.

However, for Brazilís fifth seeded Ligia Silva, it was a different story; she finished in first place in her group but had to rely on games ratio to secure the exalted position.....

Brazil Retains Menís Team Title in Most Appropriate Manner

It was appropriate, the player who won the point that secured the Menís Team title in the table tennis events at the Pan American Games in the Mexican city of Guadalajara on Monday 17th October 2011, was 42 year old Hugo Hoyama from S„o Paulo.

Appropriate, it gave Hugo Hoyama a special status in Pan American Games history.

He beat Pablo Tabachnik (16-14, 6-11, 12-10, 15-13) to secure a hard earned three-one victory over Argentina; the third game being crucial, the Argentine led 10-6 before Hugo Hoyama reeled off six points in row to seize the momentum.....
