Staged in the splendid surroundings of the Aspire Academy in Doha on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd November 2011, the Men’s Doubles event at the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup was won by the partnership of Kim Hyok Bong from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Ryu Seungmin from the south of the 38th Parallel, the Republic of Korea.

 A welcome visitor to the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals was Hamad Al-Hammadi, the Secretary of the Qatar Table Tennis Association who, alongside Khalil Al-Mohannadi, the President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association and ITTF Executive Vice President, was present in the ExCel Arena from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th November 2011 at what was the end of a very busy week.

Represented by Ryu Seung Min and Kim Hyok Bong, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea joined forces to win the Men’s Doubles title at the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup in Doha on the evening of Tuesday 22nd November 2011.

Seeded no.2, they overcame the top seeded partnership formed by Kim Hye Song from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Kim Kyung Ah from the Republic of Korea.

At the conclusion of his speech at the dinner on the evening prior to the start of the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup in Doha, Monday 21st November 2011, Wilfred Lemke, the Special Advisor to the United Nations, the Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, insisted that he wanted a special photograph.
The photograph he wanted was one that showed the two countries separated by the 38th parallel united.
