London Visit Marks End of a Busy Week for Qatar Associationís Secretary

A welcome visitor to the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals was Hamad Al-Hammadi, the Secretary of the Qatar Table Tennis Association who, alongside Khalil Al-Mohannadi, the President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association and ITTF Executive Vice President, was present in the ExCel Arena from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th November 2011 at what was the end of a very busy week.

Certainly, a November day in east London was much different to the desert heat of Doha.

However, London is a favourite destination for Qataris. ....

Kim Hyok Bong and Ryu Seung Min Win Peace and Sport Menís Doubles Cup

Represented by Ryu Seung Min and Kim Hyok Bong, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic Peopleís Republic of Korea joined forces to win the Menís Doubles title at the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup in Doha on the evening of Tuesday 22nd November 2011.

They accounted for the partnership of Chinaís Chen Qi and Qatarís Ahmad Al-Mohannadi (11-8, 11-4, 11-9) at the semi-final stage, before overcoming the combination formed by Fan Yiyong of the United States and Russiaís Grigory Vlasov in the final (11-9, 11-3, 11-4).

The appearance of Fan Yiyong and Grigory Vlassov in the final was somewhat of a surprise.

Former Cold War Rivals Clinch Peace and Sport Womenís Doubles Title

The combination of Russiaís Anna Tikhomirova and Lily Zhang from the United States of America, won the Womenís Doubles title at the 2011 Qatar Peace and Sport Cup, staged in the splendid surroundings of the Aspire Academy in Doha, on the evening of Tuesday 22nd November 2011.

Seeded no.2, they overcame the top seeded partnership formed by Kim Hye Song from the Democratic Peopleís Republic of Korea and Kim Kyung Ah from the Republic of Korea.

In a contest that went the full five games distance and kept the crowd engrossed, Anna Tikhomirova and Lily Zhang recovered from an opening game deficit to win 6-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-3, 11-8.....

Korea Responds to United Nations Call for Friendship and Harmony

At the conclusion of his speech at the dinner on the evening prior to the start of the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup in Doha, Monday 21st November 2011, Wilfred Lemke, the Special Advisor to the United Nations, the Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, insisted that he wanted a special photograph.

The photograph he wanted was one that showed the two countries separated by the 38th parallel united.

Ryu Seung Min from the Republic of Korea and Kim Hyok Bong from the Democratic Peopleís Republic of Korea both stepped forward to shake hands on the podium and duly had their photograph taken with Wilfried Lemke.....

Doha Students Shown Clearly that Sport is a Unifying Force for Good

Political ideologies, religious intolerance, disputed territories are all facts that have caused conflict between nations and as the history books show; they have halted sport.

On the morning of Monday 21st November 2011, sport was shown as a vehicle that can transcend any boundaries devised by man.

A visit to Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School in Doha was organised, with all the players scheduled to take part in the 2011 Qatar Peace and Sport Cup in attendance.

Players from countries with histories of difference talked to each other in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

The Democratic Peopleís Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea join forces to provide the top seeded pairs in both Menís and Womenís Doubles events at the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup, to be staged at the state-of-the-art Aspire Academy in Doha.

In the Menís Doubles event, Ryu Seung Min joins forces with Kim Hyok Bong; whilst in the Womenís Doubles competition Kim Kyung Ah will partner Kim Hye Song.
