Rodrigo Tapia Wins Again to Clinch Successive ITTF Junior Circuit Titles

The winner in Guatemala, Ecuador’s 17 year old Rodrigo Tapia repeated the success of one week earlier by capturing the Junior Boys’ Singles title at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open, in the Central American country’s capital city of San Salvador, on Sunday 14th August 2011.

Seeded no.1, as in neighbouring Guatemala, he was extended the full distance on only one occasion; that being in the penultimate round against the impressive Jonas Stener (11-4, 6-11, 11-7, 11-13, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3), one of two Swedes the Ecuadorian confronted en route to gold.....

Carelyn Cordero Wins in El Salvador to Secure First Career Crown

The second seed, Puerto Rico’s 17 year old Carelyn Cordero, upset the order of merit to win the Junior Girls’ Singles title at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open on Sunday 14th August 2011 by beating top seed, Sweden’s Linda Bergström in a tense seven games final.

Carelyn Cordero won 7-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9 to secure her first ever Girls’ Singles crown on the ITTF Junior Circuit.

At the quarter-final stage she overcame Linda Bergström’s compatriot, Maria Engelson, the no.6 seed (6-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8) before accounting for Mexico’s Monica Serrano, the no.8 seed (11-6, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3).....

Boys’ Doubles Gold Secured by Sweden and Brazil in El Salvador

Sweden added to their title collection at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open on Saturday 13th August 2011.

Carl Akerlind and Jonas Stener, the no.2 seeds, won the Junior Boys’ Doubles crown. They overcame the combination of Uruguay’s Alen Polakof and Ecuador’s Rodrigo Tapia, the no.3 seed at the final hurdle(13-11, 12-10, 11-7).

Meanwhile, in the counterpart Cadet Boys’ Doubles competition it was success for Brazil with Gabriel Pereira and Isaac Zauli emerging successful.....

At the Double, Both Doubles Titles Captured by Nordic Visitors

It was Sweden’s day on the fourth day of action at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open on Saturday 13th August 2011.

The girls captured both the Junior Girls and Cadet Girls’ Doubles titles.

In both cases occupying the top seeded position, the Swedes justified that accolade and in both finals they overcame the second seeded outfit.

Furthermore both pairs were never seriously troubled, only in the Junior Girls Doubles final was a single game conceded.....

Julio Calderon and Luis Mejia Secure Junior Boys’ Team Title for Host Nation

Represented by Julio Calderon and Luis Mejia, the host nation won the Junior Boys’ Team title at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open in the country’s capital city of San Salvador on Friday 12th August 2011.

In so doing they repeated the success of one week earlier, when they had beaten the Mexican duo of Alejandro Garza and Daniel Perez in the final at the Guatemala Junior and Cadet Open.

A three-one score line was victory margin in the neighbouring Central American country; on home spoil it was a closer affair; a three-two verdict was the order of the day against the partnership of Ecuador’s Rodrigo Tapia and Uruguay’s Alen Polakof.....

A long journey across the Atlantic but for the Swedish duo of Linda Bergström and Maria Engelson, the journey proved worthwhile and fruitful.

The top seeds, they justified their exalted position in the draw to win the Junior Girls’ Team title at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open on Friday 12th January 2011.

At the final hurdle, they accounted for the Puerto Rican combination of Carelyn Cordero and Daniely Rios to clinch the title, with Linda Bergström being very much the mainstay of success.....

Favourites Make Fine Start Junior and Cadet Boys’ Team Title Quests

Represented by Julio Calderon and Luis Mejia, the host nation made a fine start to proceedings on the opening day of play, Thursday 11th August 2011, at the El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open, staged in the country’s capital city of San Salvador.

Seeded no.1, they posted three-nil wins against the Panama duo of Steven Chan and Omer Avi-Tal, followed by a similar success against Costa’s Rica’s Esteban Castillo and Ronald Ruiz.

Equally, second seeds Sweden’s Carl Akerlind and Jonas Stener were in form, as was the third seeded combination of Ecuador’s Rodrigo Tapia and Uruguay’s Alan Polakof.....
