Silver in Italy but in France, Doo Hoi Kem Secures Cadet Girls’ Singles Gold

Runner up in the Cadet Girls’ Singles event at the Italian Junior and Cadet Open in early March, when beaten in the final by Singapore’s Lin Ye; Hong Kong’s 14 year old Doo Hoi Kem went one step better on Sunday 1st May 2011 at the French Junior and Cadet Open in the city of Metz.

Seeded no.1, she clinched gold beating second seeded Lily Zhang of the United States in the final (13-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8).

An impressive performance and a result that could well influence the top of the next issue of the Cadet Girls’ World Rankings.....

Japan Adds to Medal Haul but Belgian Duo Steal the Show in Metz

A member of the successful Japanese outfit that won the Junior Boys’ Team title at the French Junior and Cadet Open earlier in the proceedings, 14 year old Asuka Sakai added to his collection of titles on the final day of action, Sunday 1st May 2011, in the city of Metz.

He won the Cadet Boys’ Singles event and he won in an extremely emphatic manner.

The Japanese teenager surrendered just one single game on his path to victory; that being against the host nation’s very impressive 12 year old Alexandre Cassin, the no.5 seed, in the quarter-finals. ....

Ariel Hsing and Lily Zhang Steer United States to French Junior Team Title

Represented by Ariel Hsing, Lily Zhang and Erica Wu, the United States won the Junior Girls’ Team title at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz on Saturday 30th April 2011, recording a series of three-one victories en route to gold.

Ariel Hsing, the winner during the first week of April at the ITTF-Latin American Cup and Lily Zhang who captured both the Junior and Cadet Girls’ Team titles at the ensuing ITTF-North American Championships, both remained unbeaten

A notable victory, especially when taken into consideration that Ariel Hsing is 15 years old with Lily Zhang and the third member of the team, Eric Wu, only being 14 years old.....

French Resistance Greater but Once Again Japan Clinched Gold in Metz

Japan dominated matters in the Junior Boys’ Singles event earlier in the week at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz; on Saturday 30th April 2011, they emerged victorious in the Junior Boys’ Team event but the resistance from the host nation was greater than in the individual event.

At the semi-final stage France `A’ represented by Romain Lorentz, Tristan Flore and Benjamin Brossier overcame the Japan `B’ team comprising Yuto Muramatsu, Yuko Higashi and Masahiro Otsuka by three matches to two; before in the final suffering a three-one defeat at the hands of the Japan `A’ Team of Masaki Yoshida, Maharu Yoshimura and Asuka Sakai.....

Romanians Tested but Leading Teams Enjoy Successful Day in Metz

Russia `A’, the United States of America, France `A’ and Romania, the top four seeds in the Junior Girls’ Team event at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz, all finished in first place in their respective groups on Friday 29th April 2011.

It was for the top three seeds a day without great alarm but for the fourth seeded Romanians there were moments of drama.

They had to rely heavily on the experience of Bernadette Szocs to guide them to a place in the main draw.....

Top Seeds Progress Safely to French Junior Boys' Team Semi-Finals

The top four seeds in both the Junior Boys’ and Cadet Boys’ Team events at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz, progressed successfully to the semi-final stage of proceedings following victories on Friday 29th April 2011.

In the Junior Boys’ Team event, Japan `A’ and France `A’, the top two seeds imposed their authority on proceedings. Both teams emerged in first place in their respective groups and both teams recorded three-nil penultimate round victories.

Equally India and Japan `B', the third and fourth seeded teams were untroubled; they booked semi-final places as did Hong Kong, France `A', France `B' and Russia, in the Cadet Boys' Team event.....

Visitor with Local Connections Shines on First Day of Team Events in Metz

Algeria’s 14 year old Yaniss Douifi was the player to attract the attention, as matters commenced in the team events at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz on Friday 29th April 2011.

Partnering Hong Kong’s Wo Ho Hin in the Cadet Boys’ Team event he beat both Paul Gauzy (13-11, 12-14, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8) and Alexandre Cassin (10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-7); whilst teaming with Wong Ho Hin to win the doubles as the second seeds suffered an opening match defeat.

The one win for the host nation came from Alexandre Cassin in the second match of the fixture; he beat Wong Ho Tin (11-6, 11-4, 11-7).....
