Lily Phan & Wong Chung Wan Dominate Final Day at KVB Kunlun Junior Open

Two names dominated matters on the fourth and final day of play, Friday 9th April 2010, in the girls’ events at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior and Cadet Open in Auckland.

The names were those of Australia’s Lily Phan and Hong Kong’s Wong Chung Wan.

Lily Phan, 15 years old, won the Girls’ Singles title beating 14 year old Wong Chung Wan in a final that was revenge.

Earlier in the day Wong Chung Wan had beaten Lily Phan in the Cadet Girls' Singles final.

Full House of Title for Hong Kong Fourteen Year Old in Auckland

Winner earlier in the week of the Cadet Boys’ Team title with compatriot Li Hon Ming; Hong Kong’s 14 year old Daryl Hung completed a clean sweep of titles at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior and Cadet Open in Auckland on Friday 9th April 2010.

He secured top spot on the medal podium in both the Boys’ Singles and Cadet Boys’ Singles events; whilst once again joining forces with Li Hon Ming to collect both the Boys’ Doubles and Cadet Boys’ Doubles titles.

Furthermore, at no stage of the proceedings was he ever involved in a contest that went the full distance.

Spirited Matches Bring Spark to Evening Session in Auckland

A series of entertaining matches, entertaining in terms of both table tennis and vocal gymnastics, in the Boys’ Singles event at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior and Cadet Open set the tournament alight, as play commenced in the second stage of proceedings on Thursday 8th April 2010.

No player was more vocal or animated than Kevin Wu, playing in front of his home Auckland crowd against Dillon Cathcart from Australia.

The young man, who earlier in the week had booked his place in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in August, showed no inhibitions and displaying a positive attitude emerged successful.

Early Cadet Rounds Favour Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand

Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand dominated proceedings in the early rounds of the Cadet Boys’ Singles and Cadet Girls’ Singles events at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior Open in Auckland on Thursday 8th April 2010.

In the Cadet Boys’ Singles all four young men from Hong Kong - Daryl Hung, Kwan Man Ho, Li Hon Ming, Lam Siu Hang - enjoyed straight games victories to book their places in the quarter finals.

Leading Names Progress as Australia Gains Upper Hand in First Stage Duels

The leading names in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles events at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior and Cadet Open, being staged in Auckland, emerged successful on the third day of action, Thursday 8th April 2010.

In the Boys’ Singles event the top four seeds – Hong Kong’s Daryl Hung, Thailand’s Tanapol Santiwattanatarm, Australia’s Heming Hu, America’s Alexander Yao – were never extended the full distance.

Equally, in the Girls’ Singles event, Hong Kong’s Wong Chung Wan, Australia’s Lily Phan, New Zealand’s Julia Wu and Anna Du, also from Australia, booked quarter-finals places.

Top Seeds Progress to Latter Stages Without Alarm Bells Ringing

Matters went according to ranking in the group stage of both the Cadet Boys’ and Cadet Girls’ Singles events at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior Open in Auckland on Thursday 8th April 2010.

The top seeds in both the Cadet Boys’ Singles and Cadet Girls’ Singles events emerged successful. Hong Kong’s Daryl Hung and Alexander Yao from the United States of America, the respective no.1 and no.2 seeds in the boys’ event enjoyed a trouble free day as did Daryl Hung’s compatriot, Wong Chun Wan and Australia’s Lily Phan, the leading two players in the counterpart female event.

Clean Sweep for Hong Kong in New Zealand Hopes Event

 4/7/2010 KVB Kunlun 2010 New Zealand Junior & Cadet Open - ITTF Junior Circuit

Hong Kong, rich in the traditions of table tennis, emerged successful in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles Hopes events at the KVB Kunlun New Zealand Junior and Cadet Open on Wednesday 7th April 2010.

Kwan Man Ho captured the Boys’ Singles crown, whilst top prize in the counterpart Girls’ Singles event went the way of Ng Yuen Wai.

It was the first such international tournament of its kind to be staged in the continent of Oceania. Furthermore, following the conclusion of proceedings and judging by the overall positive reaction, most certainly it will not be the last!
