China’s 20 year old Xu Xin, the man who had been given a reprieve at the quarter-final stage of the Men’s Singles event, secured gold in the early evening of Saturday 27th February 2010, by emerging as the champion at the Salwa Cup Kuwait Open.
Similar to compatriot Ma Long, three years earlier in Kuwait, he secured his first ever ITTF Pro Tour Men’s Singles crown, saving match points in the sixth and seventh games to reserve the top step of the medal podium.

China’s 18 year old Liu Shiwen secured the fourth Women’s Singles title of her career on the ITTF Pro Tour when she beat Japan’s 21 year old Ai Fukuhara in a spell binding final at the Salwa Cup Kuwait Open on Saturday 27th February 2010.
A contest played at a breathtaking speed, produced rallies of the highest calibre, the speed of the exchanges breathtaking.
There were two winners Liu Shiwen and table tennis.

Ma Long and Zhang Jike won their first ever ITTF Pro Tour Men’s Doubles title as a partnership when they succeeded at the Salwa Cup Kuwait Open on Saturday 27th February 2010.
In a duel that ebbed and flowed, they secured victory in six games.
Gradually as the match progressed they were able to seize control and assert their authority on matters.

Xu Xin, who had suffered an initial four games to nil defeat at the hands of colleague Wang Liqin at the quarter-final stage of the Men’s Singles event at the Salwa Cup Kuwait Open but then was re-instated when his victor’s racket failed the solvent test, made the most of his lifeline on the morning of Saturday 27th February 2010.
In an action packed Men’s Singles semi-final encounter he beat Chinese National Team colleague, Ma Long, the no.1 seed, in seven games.

Japan’s Ai Fukuhara continued her amazing run of success at the Salwa Cup Kuwait Open Saturday 27th February 2010 by beating China’s Guo Yan, the no.3 seed, at the semi-final stage of the Women’s Singles event.
One day earlier she had caused a sensation by overcoming Guo Yan’s compatriot, Guo Yue, the no.2 seed, before beating Singapore’s Wang Yue Gu, the no.9 seed, in the quarter-finals.
