Japan’s 20 year old Ai Fukuhara won the Women’s Singles title at the Morocco Open Hassan II in Rabat on Friday 10th July 2009 and in so doing ended a run of disappointing performances on the ITTF Pro Tour
Earlier the year she had suffered somewhat unexpected defeats and had never progressed to compete on the final day of action.
In Qatar, China and Japan it had been a second round exit, in Germany it was rather better, she reached the quarter-finals but a higher finish was expected.... |

Class Counts, Vladimir Samsonov Adds to his Title Collection |

Vladimir Samsonov justified his top seeded place at the Morocco Open Hassan II in Rabat by winning the Men’s Singles crown late in the afternoon of Friday 10th July 2009.
In so doing he won his 20th Men’s Singles title on the ITTF Pro Tour, 19 having been secured in open international tournaments and one in the Grand Finals.
At the final hurdle, he proved too secure for a brave opponent in the guise of Spain’s Carlos Machado.

New Partnerships Inscribe Names on ITTF Pro Tour Honours Board |

The names of two new partnerships appeared on the ITTF Pro Tour Doubles roll of honours in the afternoon of Friday 10th July 2009.
At the Morocco Open Hassan II, victory at the final hurdle went the way of the French pairing of Loïc Bobillier and Armand Phung in the Men’s Doubles event; whilst in the counterpart female competition it was success for the Japanese combination of Ai Fukuhara and Kasumi Ishikawa.
The latter duo recorded a six games success over Korea’s Kim Jung Hyun an.... |

Russian and Egyptian Hopes Fade as Samsonov and Machado Succeed |

Top seed Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus and no.5 seed, Spain’s Carlos Machado, were the two players to emerge successful at the semi-final stage of the Men’s Singles event at the Morocco Open Hassan II in Rabat on Friday 10th July 2009.
Samsonov overcame third seeded Russian, Maxim Shymryev in four straight games; whilst with only the loss of the fourth game, Machado maintained his form to defeat seventh seed, Egypt’s El-Sayed Lashin..... |

Top Seeds Book Final Places in Morocco |

Japan’s Ai Fukuhara and Korea’s Seok Ha Jung, the respective no.1 and no.2 seeded players in the Women’s Singles event at the Moroccan Open in Rabat, both emerged successful in their semi-final duels on the morning of Friday 10th July 2009.
Ai Fukuhara overcame Korea’s Park Seong Hye, whilst Seok Ha Jung defeated Shim Se Rom.
Both recorded five games wins; Ai Fukuhara won 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-3, 11-5 whilst Seok Ha Jung succeeded 12-10, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6. .... |
