An Incredible Experience for Channel Islander

09/02/2010 2010 First Youth Olympic Games

The inaugural Youth Olympic Games is now over.

It is resigned to history but for those who were present in Singapore, the experience of having competed in the event will live for ever

Certainly that is the situation for Alice Loveridge.

She was Great Britain's only table tennis representative in the Youth Olympics.

A Valuable Experience, the Athlete Role Model

08/27/2010 2010 First Youth Olympic Games

Men’s Singles silver medallist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, eight years later with Patrick Chila the Men’s Doubles bronze medallists and, in the intervening years, a host of titles including being crowned World champion in Gothenburg in 1993; Jean-Philippe Gatien of France was the athlete role model at the recently completed Youth Olympic Games.

However, it was the Team competition that was the major innovation; two players in a team was not unusual but the fact that the outfits comprised one boy and one girl was certainly very different.
