The recovery of Wang Liqin in the Men’s Singles final at the Liebherr World Championships on Sunday 27th May 2007 against Ma Lin when trailing by three games to one and down 1-7 in the fifth game is embedded in the memory; as is also the fight back mounted by Guo Yue in the Women’s Singles final one day earlier against Li Xiaoxia.
She also recovered from a three games to one deficit to secure victory.

The dust has now settled and it is time to reflect on a hectic week in Zagreb at the Liebherr World Championships, a week that saw table tennis of the highest order, a week dominated by China and a week that ended with one man now deserving a place amongst the most revered in the history of table tennis.
Wang Liqin, by winning the Men’s Singles crown for a third time, surely can now be considered amongst the greats of table tennis.

It is all change at the top of the ITTF Men’s World Rankings following the Liebherr World Championships which concluded in Zagreb on Sunday 27th May 2007.
China’s Wang Liqin, the winner of the Men’s Singles title, regains his number one spot, replacing the man he beat in the final, compatriot Ma Lin.

Defeats in Zagreb but Zhang Yining and Wang Nan Retain Top Places |

At the Liebherr World Championships in Zagreb, China’s Zhang Yining lost in the semi-finals, whilst her colleague, Wang Nan, went out one round earlier.
However, on the ITTF Women’s World Rankings published following the Championships both retain the places they occupied on 1st May 2007; Zhang Yining is still at no. 1 with Wang Nan at no. 2. The change is in the next two places..... |

Wang Liqin Mounts Stunning Recovery to Retain Men’s Singles Title in Zagreb |

It may not have been the greatest recovery ever in the history of table tennis and it may not have been the greatest recovery ever in a Men’s Singles final at a World Championships but it came pretty close.
China’s Wang Liqin trailed his Chinese compatriot, Ma Lin, by three games to one and in the fifth game he was 1-7 in arrears; it seemed the title was destined to go to Ma Lin.

Olympic Champions Retain Title at Liebherr World Championships |

Wang Nan and Zhang Yining duly retained their Women’s Doubles title at the Liebherr World Championships in Zagreb on Sunday 27th May 2007, when they beat their Chinese national team colleagues, Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia in the final.
Not only did they win but they won in a most emphatic style; in four straight games they secured victory.
Wang Nan and Zhang Yining won 11-5, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9. .... |
